This has been done before but not in a long time I don't think. Who are some players you have always found dirty but never seem to get a rep about it. For me, I've actually always thought Daymond Langkow was pretty dirty for a player without a rep.

He said players who don't have a reputation, by this point everybody and his dog has called out Subban for something or other.

I could agree with Pleks though, he does tend to get under everybodys skin. Marchand aswell, he likes to call guys out during interviews but hardly leads by example.

Daniel Briere most definitely has a rep, fans from other fanbases constantly talk about it in game threads...

I heard Aaron Ward talk about it on TSN how he plays with an edge, and joked about how it's well known he uses his stick for things other than hockey.

Lucic, Marchand

Lucic isn't dirty, he's not sly enough to hide what he does - he just punches people when he loses his temper

Marchand has a rep

My vote would definitely be for Pleks, that cross check to krejci's face during the playoffs is a shining example

Also Claude Giroux, his hit on Bergy wasn't exactly on time, i give him a pass for it but later in the same game he skated towards Krejci and lifted his stick and swung it towards him like he was going to wack him (and more specifically, his face).

I'd say Briere but I think he has a rep

Ladislav Smid. He's not dirty in the "I'm going to intentionally run you from behind and break your neck" kind of way, but he is pretty dirty in the face wash, hack your legs if you're in front of the net, feed you elbows in the corners kind of way.

Robyn Regehr looks like he is trying to injure smaller players half of the time.

Earlier this year, I would have said Kesler and Burrows, but the playoffs exposed them, especially Burrows.

Tim Thomas. He slashes a lot. I did find his body check on Henrik Sedin amusing, though.

I think a lot of people in Canada give passes to the Canucks for not being dirty, but let's be honest: Raffi Torres is a punk, Burrows is a ******, and Kesler, who everybody thinks is the second coming of Christ, slashes like there's no tomorrow, but tends to get away with it because he's a really good player.

I hear his fans always say he's tough and doesn't take crap from people. if he was trying to do anything with the puck, he would have done what he learned as a mite, and kept his stick on the ice. and it's called peripheral vision. he knew varlamov was there, it wasn't an accident. but what would you suggest it was? does he go around 2 hand cross checking the air whenever he's around the net? it's not a common pose to have you stick like that around the crease when on offense, especially when you move it foward violently.

Strange call. Granted, I idolized Sundin when I was a kid, but I can't think of enough particularly dirty plays to warrant calling him dirty. He had his moments here and there, but is there a player on the planet that hasn't? All I can really say is that Sundin didn't really take any crap from anyone, but he certainly didn't play as nasty as he could have. That was a huge complaint about him as a Leaf. The dude probably could have been a real force if he just used that remarkable God given size and strength to put some fear in opponents' hearts.

at first i thought you were trolling, but now i think you're being serious. the first one, burrows tried slashing his stick out of his hand, so thomas slashed him back, second was a LEGAL hit, sedin had the puck, idiot. and then the third, kostitsyn boarded aaron ward and then skated in front of thomas and thomas hit him. don't get how any of those were dirty, especially the hit on sedin

What about when he jabbed Hansen in the eye with his stick? Thomas is the dirtiest goalie in the league, admit it, just be happy he's good too.

Hansen proved himself to be a cheapshot artist in the SCF. Looking forward to the January game in Boston when there is just a measly 2 points on the line and Ference, McQuaid and Boychuk extract revenge on him. He's going to be one hurtin dude after that game. Wouldn't be surprised if he comes up with a mysterious injury for that game.

Matty isn't dirty, that was a hockey play and it wasn't the initial contact that gave Savard the concussion. His head hit the glass/dasher on the way down. Also, Savard had been hit a few games prior and was probably concussed from that.

My picks: Joe Thornton, Plekanec, Lapierre, Kaleta

compan
07-01-2011, 10:04 AM
I'd say Kaleta, Plek, Crosby (ball puncher).

Now for my biased comments.

I wouldn't necessarily say the Canucks, except for some antics in game 7 when they were losing (the hits on Ference and Chara). Most of their stuff is more pathetic than dirty. See Burrows and the Swedish diving team. For the Habs, I think mainly Plek is it. The games are usually pretty heated due to the rivalry so anything that a player does to a Bruin may not exactly fit an overall characteristic of that player. However, Plek seems pretty consistent.

Wow some of the guys people have in this thread in my opinion are hardly "dirty".

Dirty (as in just crosses a line):
Downie
Briere
Cooke (has a rep)

Cheap (as in takes dives, takes place in stupid little slash fests):
Chara - he had a few during the playoffs this year that were just bad
Lapierre

As for Thomas. Not sure where he fits. Half the time the stuff he does has a thought process behind it (the Sedin hit) but the defending of teammates he should leave to teammates as it has sometimes cost him (Winter Classic when he went for the hit and the puck went in the net). Not sure if he's "dirty" maybe "cheap" in my book. He has an edge that most goalies don't have. Mostly due to how aggressive he plays. But I wouldn't say he's Hextall like at all.

I agree. I hate to see him do those things because I feel that his dmen have a better shot at handling it but when one of his guys or even he himself get cheap shotted he goes at them. I think that active and aggressive style has gotten him where he is, thus nothing's going to change. The dude used to scream at his own forwards in practice when they scored on him, just this year he admited that he had to tone that down.

And I don't think its dirty, its definetely on an edge but with players like Cooke, Downie, Avery being dirty I don't think he fits there either.

Joe Thornton. Not because of the hit he got suspended for this year. Heck, I thought there was nothing wrong with the hit. My beef with him is his constant whining and diving. Also if the Sharks fall behind by a few (which does not happen too often) he turns into a massive cheap shot artist and tries to whine to the refs that his victim started it. Joe is a massive pile of chicken dung. Too bad as if he would clean his game up a little he would be a likeable player.
