For all of the threads regarding the new building, something lost in the shuffle, are the players on the Islanders. How do they react? Has Long Island sent them a message that they're not wanted?
I think the best thing that we can do as fans to show our support is to turn out and fill the building.
The Islanders are certainly on the upswing on the ice. I don't know what that will ultimately translate to, but win or lose, it's important that the coliseum sells out on the nights the Islanders are home.
This will make a statement to the guys on the roster and hopefully to the county governments in Nassau and Suffolk.
If the building is half empty, like it has been, you can write the obituary for the Islanders, because nobody is going to push for a new arena, when the old one isn't working and players (both current and UFA's) won't want to sign up for a team that is percieved as "lame duck".
I understand my words might ring hollow to some (I live in LA), but it's all I could come up with under these difficult times for Islander Nation. I will do my part when I'm on Long Island (I'm there every Christmas and sometimes I get there in the spring).
