He shoulda just tossed it at the ump. Good on the fan for tossing a beer. I love how passionate Canadians are!! I just hope the guy isnt facing charges.

What an absolute joke of officiating. Bill Miller wont be back to Toronto anytime soon, and hes been exposed. As a referee of any sort you need to be fully objective, those had to be the two worst pitch calls i have seen all season.

Both the helmet and the beer grazed miller. I wish both hit him smack dab in the middle.

I didnt catch the game, at what point were these calls made and did it potentially affect the final outcome?

His suspect backwards skating is giving him a pylon reputation. For the sake of the Leafs he better get that fixed. At the very least Burke needs to compliment him with a stay at home/shut down/vet, or you give him less ice time/put him on the second line.

Overall, I think that you're on the right track with how the team looks and what the Leafs need.

Frattin has been a pleasant surprise and even if he starts with the 3rd line next year, he could finish up on the 2nd and it would be good. I really do think that Kulemin's best suited for a 3rd line role. He kind of strikes me as a Curtis Glencross type in a way. Glencross isn't a guy that is your typical top 6 forward. Doesn't have great size or the greatest skillset, but he knows where to be on the ice and he plays at 110% every shift and if he scores anything over 12 goals then you consider it a great year. As for Kulemin, he's a workhorse. He gives it everything he's got for the full 60+ minutes and he finishes his checks.

Steckl has been a good addition for the Leafs. As a 4th line guy he doesn't have the wheels, but plays on the PK and wins draws.

And for the rest of the forwards, you could give 1 million explanations on why you think they are or aren't suited for the system, but it all comes down to your goaltender. If you don't get a timely save, then it shows infront of you with confidence and over compensating for trying to do the goaltenders work. Then you run into the problems of a poor defensive system because of this reason.

OP, the only thing that I disagree with... and I'm usually the only one that really cares about this... is the wingers shouldn't collapse to the point you are saying. I'm in the mindset that you often see the puck go back to the point and they have too much time and the puck stays in the zone for another 30 seconds. So the forwards start running around even more and are gassed, so they start taking stupid penalties and you create more problems. I know its probably just me that thinks that way, but I really don't like to see all 5 guys below the hashmarks.

I agree. I think Burke does too. It may be why he is making sure he gets guys like Biggs and Ross. He made trades to make sure he got both, they didn't just fall to his lap as a BPA.

As much as I was excited to see Army come in originally, it isn't money well spent to piss away the cap on 3rd line talent.

Lombardi - Connolly - Army = 11.25M in cap space.

By 13-14 we could possibly see:

Ross - Colborne - Biggs =~ 3.5-4M in cap space. 7-8M in savings. That's the price of a legit superstar.

And cycle in whoever you want in that line, Ashton(1.1M), McKegg(900k), D'amigo(1M), no matter what, utilizing our prospects that have had time in the AHL to make their mistakes and learn a pro game and we are now possibly bigger players in the FA game. No more FA 3rd liners and depth D.

That's why I'm ok with going for sure things later in the 1st and in the second instead of long shot, high reward types. I'll take Wilson over Frk 10 times outta 10.

The 5th overall is where we should be taking a gamble on the intangibles for a high end talent. I don't care what some say about Grig's effort levels(don't believe it anyway). I don't concern myself with the "Russian factor". I want the best talent at 5, and another sure thing grinder or depth D in the 2nd.
