Firstly, given the inherent over payment of these deals, I wouldn't part with our 1st in 2014. Secondly, given needs, we'll have an easier time trying Colorado for their pick than Florida.

I feel like generally speaking, it's worth about a 2nd on a $4m or higher contract. That is to say if you had an offer amenable to both sides and then decided to do the 50% retention, the pot would likely sweeten to the tune of a 2nd in most cases. There's not much to base this on, it merely feels right at this juncture.

As to specific trades it would sometimes be the difference between the traded even happening or not, or the inclusion of worthwhile return (e.g. high-end prospect) or not.

Bailen can skate and provide offense, but the challenge for him is defending at the pro level, as the bigger AHL forwards made for a mismatch since offense is his niche much more so than defense.

Miller at a little over 3 million would be valuable, especially for a cash strapped team like the Coyotes.I'm assuming if they got new ownership he would re-sign as it would be closer to his wife full time.Take away the 3rd part from our side and simplify it, Miller + 16 for Gormley and 12.Gormley was very impressive this year and will be an excellent future top 4 d-man.I would be ecstatic if we acquire Gormley and pair him with Myers. That could be the elusive legitimate top pairing the franchise hasn't had for 20+ years.Moving to 12th from 16th gives us more flexibility to move up.The #8 and #12 along with something else could move us into the #4 spot IMO.I like the basis of this deal.

Yeah, definitely. I think the ??? will probably be like a conditional draft pick based upon whether Miller re-signs in Phoenix or not. It is likely that he does anyways if the Yotes stay in Phoenix.

... I completely agree with this point. In the end, Weber is a certain kind of player (bottom pair, defensive defensemen). I obviously don't think Mike Weber and Joe Corvo are interchangeable in terms of style, but in terms of role, they're at least closer. Certainly there are other types as you rightly mentioned but in the end, the bottom of the defensive depth chart on most teams have players that are generally interchangeable, so, IMO, I don't really consider them to be that important to an organization. To bring bring it back to the original topic; I'm not interested in repeating the Rivet captaincy. Lastly, I cannot let you get away with this...

You agree with the difference, but then revert to calling them interchangeable.

Corvo and Weber are not interchangeable. One succeeds on the "bottom pairing" (hate that term too) as a defensive defensemen, d zone starts, PK, physical, bla bla bla... the other succeeds, sort of, on the bottom pair, getting ozone starts, and PP time, non physical, and scoring minutes.... NOT interchangeable
