Well we can agree to disagree. I think he does make a difference in the game and I think he can be a game changer. Whether the stats back my opinion on Pavelec or not it is ultimately my opinion. I think Pavelec is a solid goaltender and is the right fit for this team and I dont think there is a problem in goal at all. His stats over the last 3 seasons look pretty much the same to me.
I had already said I thought scoring was the bigger problem. Lines 2-4 (-Kane) are the biggest area of concern in my opinion.
I think that the team will add some of their solid young talent and continue to improve.

The Jets were 15th in scoring. The team that was 9th in scoring scored 5 more goals than the Jets. Would 5 more goals (1 goal every 10 games) be enough to get the Jets in the playoffs? Would scoring be an issue if they missed the playoffs while being 9th in scoring? How many goals would the Jets have to score before scoring wasn't an issue? Do 22 of 30 NHL teams have an issue scoring goals?

If no one of note slides, and Domi's available, I'd love to see him selected by the Jets. Great work ethic, fast and quick and strong on his skates, with great offensive instinct. Short, but strong - very hard to move off the puck. If he were 170 I'd have questions about his ability to play against larger players, but he's right around 200lbs already.

I see some Marchand and, some Parise, with a bit of the aggression of his Father in him.

EDIT: skating test at a combine:
Unfortunately he hasn't recovered from his injury yet it seems.
Those at St. John's were saying that his second half of the season was much better. I had only watched just under half of the games in the second half of the season (and almost all of the first half), but it seemed likely to be the truth.
I'm sure being in front of a D-squad with 4 rookies (O`Neill, Chiarot, Melchiori, Sol) did not help much, but there's only so much team affects can change SV%.
Maybe a year or two in Europe might be best for him. If he can bounce back to original form, I'm sure he could be an NHL level goaltender, but that's a big if.

He tweeted at the end of the season that the big thing for him was that he was playing 100% pain-free. So maybe it's a case that it's taken him a whole season to get back to where he was and next year should be a truer measure of his ability...but it doesn't sound like next year will be with this organization if the KHL is knocking on his door with their wheelbarrows full of rubles!

Yea I followed the GDT a bit and we are starting to see very similar comments about Jacob as we did at the WJC. I don't need validation from secondary sources to feel good about our 2012 1st round pick but it is always cool when Habs, Sabers, and many other fan bases tune in to watch the game and their prospects and without prompting say things like….and by the way "Trouba is going to be a stud, or a beast". Glad he is rounding into form and how about Gibson as well ? Stapler was gushing about how good and confident both Gibson and Trouba were on the round table last week and Tim looks to be spot on.

Glad Trouba is back playing and playing well. He seems to be ready for the NHL next year, as well.

Anaheim will have an interesting decision to make if Gibson continues to develop and play well. Hiller just turned 31, and has 1 year left on his contract. Fasth turns 31 in summer, and has 2 yrs left on his deal, I believe. Pretty sure one of their older goalies gets moved, but which one? Hiller? He was their #1 in playoffs. Fasth? He might be the better of the two. Nice to have a solid vet and up-and-coming guy. Good situation.

I'll be interested to see what goalie moves are made in off-season. Guys like Luongo, Miller are likely to be traded. A guy like J Bernier might be moved too. Then, is Hiller or Fasth going to move next year, say at trade deadline? What about Ilya B, Halak, and MA Fleury? FA's like Backstrom and Smith might move on as well. Interesting times.

Teams like Oilers, Flames, Blues, Flyers, Minny, Devils, Panthers, Penguins, Coyotes, and even Leafs (?), might have different goalies next fall.

Imagine where:

Oilers - Smith, does KLowe like his work at WC's and tandem with Dubnyk? Signing him won't not lose a pick or prospect for Oil.
Flames - Bernier, young goalie to grow with young team.
Blues - want to win now. A guy like Ilya might look ok there.
Flyers - Miller or Luongo might handle the pressure there. Miller would be fun as a Flyer.
Minny - need a capable goalie, see Backstrom resigning.
Devils - with brodeur still around, the may look for his successor (draft or trade).
Panthers - Luongo is the favorite by many to go there.
Penguins - Miller? But Ilya on a modest deal after Flyer buy-out would be priceless.
Coyotes - wouldn't Ilya's return, with the Flyers paying him big $ in a buy-out, seem like the perfect ending to this debacle?
Leafs - may go with Reimer, but TO media will hound them until they make a move for a vet back-up? Halak?

Interesting times ahead.

If save percentage is the most glaringly bad stat, it does warrant a good chunk of attention.

The Jets have ranked 26th in 5 on 5 save% over each of last two seasons.

That is bad.

The fact that the ES sv% has been trending down over the last 3 years is even worse.

There are other issues, but in my mind the two biggest issues are at #2RW and between the pipes.

I know the Abbotsford Heat are moving next season, so that may have something to do with it. They may be wanting to move their farm team closer.
