I just wandered over to the Penguins forum for the first time since the trade, and I must say that I am extremely disappointed by how he is being treated by a large portion of their fanbase.

I honestly can't imagine the type of the player they must have thought they were going to get because quite frankly Iginla is producing at an elite level since joining the Penguins.

Of course his all around game is nowhere near as good as it used to be, but he was not brought in to provide an immaculate three zone game. He was brought in to provide depth scoring and leadership and he has more than fulfilled that expectation.

It actually irks me a little bit to be honest.

I agree with all of this.
I doubt Barkov or Drouin are still on the table come the Calgary pick. I really am hoping that Lindholm is still there, because I think he's an incredible player.

Can't see Lightning passing up on Drouin however. They love their French-Canadians/Quebecois players... and Drouin would fit perfectly with a sniper like Stamkos. Could cement that first line for 15 years lol

Nashville will either take Barkov or Lindholm, in my opinion. They love their Swedes in Nashville, but Barkov would be the BPA at 4.
Carolina is a wild card. They won't take a Dman, after reading that GM interview. They have the top 5 offensive players ranked closely.
So: Mack, Drouin, Barkov, Niki & Lindholm? Or maybe Monahan in there instead of the Russian or Swede? We all know that the Raleigh scouting is not very far reaching, so I have no idea how they have their players ranked. I feel as if Carolina has the ability to draft someone like Niki. They have one mega skilled Russian already playing for them, so I don't think they'd be too against getting another one.

Who knows. The only thing I know, is it's getting very exciting as the days go by towards the draft and free agency.

People are reading way too much into the post-deadline performance. The roster was primarily comprised of a bunch of kids competing for full time jobs with absolutely no expectations on them whatsoever. Fans who think that kind of play can carry over onto an 82 game easy are going to be sorely disappointed next year.

Now, it's still premature to say how the Flames will do next season with significant certainty because the draft, free agency and the constant wildcard in trades will all play a role in shaping the opening day roster. That being said, I don't believe the Flames will be big players on free agency, unless they throw crazy money around, e.g. 6+ at guys like Horton, Weiss, Roy, or Ribiero for significant term, i.e. 5+ years. Realistically, none of the big names are going to sign with a club just starting a rebuilding phase when they can sign for big money on teams that expect to contend soon or are already contenders.

Unless the Flames manage to snag a top-three talent, the draft too, shouldn't change the way the roster performs significantly. Trades are a complete wildcard with Feaster at helm.

Finally, all the fans banking on game breaking performances next season by Berra or Ramo as number one goalies aren't living in the real world. Berra hasn't played more than 49 games in a season ever while Ramo usually only plays ~50 in a full season including playoffs in the KHL. One can't realistically expect either of those guys to replicate what Kipper did, that is to say, provide a high level performance consistently for 60 or 70+ games. Both guys are going to need next season to adjust to the North American game, either in the AHL or in the NHL, and both will need to adjust to an 82 game schedule.

If all goes well, we could see a similar development path as Bobrovsky. He struggled in his first season with the Flyers, particularly as the season wore on and as he was asked to play more than he was used too. But this season, after acclimating to the NHL style, he was much better.

A lot of this will depend on Hartley and how he manages his goalies. If he overplays any one of MacDonald, Ramo or Berra, the Flames will suffer for it. On the other hand, if he can successfully platoon those guys throughout the reason, giving each one of them periods of rest and ice time, the schedule effect might not be as noticeable.

I wonder if this means the loser between (Macdonald and Berra) and Brossoit will be the goalies on the Heat or if Ortio will come back and Brossoit will start in the ECHL.
