You can't compare Lowell to St. John's and you can't compare Tsongas to Mile One. The Ice Caps have no competition and a hypothetical New LockMonsters would have the following.

UMass Lowell sharing the same venue and being their landlord

Merrimack 20 minutes away

Manchester 30 minutes away

Boston (Bruins and Beanpot quartet) and Worcester (plus Holy Cross), and FWIW Bentley, 45 minutes away

UNH a little over an hour away

UMass Amherst, Springfield (and FWIW AIC), UConn, Hartford, Dartmouth, Portland, and the PBruins/PC/Brown trio all within 2 hours.

And this doesn't take into account other sports or the fact that with all of UML's programs going up to D1 they're going to probably give basketball a push even if they're a hockey school. Baseball as well, they just held the America East tournament at LaLecheur Park as a bit of a sneak peek/preview. Would you sell tickets at St. John's prices in Lowell given the alternatives Lowell has?

MacDonald, who spent the majority of the season with Cincinnati (ECHL) save for a 4-gamer with San Antonio, got into 5 playoff games before the Bruins were eliminated.

Case, who spent the majority of the season with Idaho (ECHL) save for a 5-gamer with Manchester, did not get into a single game, and has since signed on with Lillehammer IHK (Norway) per this link: http://www.lillehammerhockey.no/inde...view/full/2133

We are trying to see as much hockey as possible driving from Philly to Memphis (NHL, ECHL, SPHL etc). But we are Dutch, so we would love to visit a game of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers because they signed Mike Dalhuisen. I will keep an eye on the calendar of their venue!

There are a couple of ways, actually. First, Europeans (not drafted by CHL team, or ever having played in NCAA); although usually they'll play in Europe rather than come over early and play in AHL. Also, NCAA-drop out players (age 18, 19; not drafted by CHL team); if they drop out of school, they can be assigned to AHL.

But very, very few ever do.

Of course, drafted CHLers can play in the AHL after their season is done in the spring.

The Grand Rapid Griffins came from behind in Game 6 against the Toronto Marlies from a 3-1 scoreline to win their series. The Oklahoma Barons on the other hand came through relatively unscathed against the Texas Stars although they faced a harder opponent in the first round against the Charlotte Checkers. Arcobello is the leading points player in the play-offs so far and will look to keep that up against Oklahoma. Grand Rapid will look to keep their offensive power up with Tatar one of their top players.
