The effect of injuries on players career are hard to determine. There are two extreme sides to this. One side pro-rates the partial seasons and other side gives the games missed 0 value.

I don't think Crosby playing 41 games and netting 66(?) points is worth 66 points. We need to give some context and adjustment for that season. I personally would like to think that the value of that season is closer to 82 games than it is 0. I give Crosby credit of being a top-3 player in the world that year. He would have been slam dunk #1 without injuries, but they did happen. But it's not like his scoring finish with 66 point's gives us a real idea of his play.

Crosby has been remarkably consistent on games he has played. If he hasn't been the clear #1 player on those games he has been in the conversation of top-5. Ovechkin had a little "slower" 2nd year in the league. After that he was basically the #1 for three straight years.

Crosby would have been #1 for past 3 years without injuries. Ovechkin has had 2 seasons when he has dropped out of the top-5 player mold. Crosby has 0 but he has injuries.

Which one has had better career so far? It's Ovechkin but it's due to injuries of Crosby. Otherwise it would be arguably Crosby and Ovechkin as 2nd.

But the funny thing about prorating is that Ovechkin and Crosby would have the same amount of Art Ross trophies based on PPG.
But Ovechkin leads Rocket Richard trophies by 4 vs. 1

I will be glad to. My next post coming up will have all his numbers from 2010-11 and 2011-12 (ES TOI/G, ES P/ES 60 MIN TOI, ES G/ES 60 MIN TOI, PP TOI/G PP P/PP 2 MIN TOI, PP G/PP 2 MIN TOI, SH TOI/G, PPGA/ SH 2 MIN TOI, etc.)

Whoever said "dynamite for three years now" is misspeaking. Good defensively for three years now, and very good defensively past two years is more like it, not to mention good offensively last year and dynamite this year.

The reason he didn't earn any Norris votes past two years is because year 1 (2010-11) he was a rookie and was noticeably bad defensively for some games. Year 2 (2011-12) we were a 15th place team. When was the last time a defenseman on a 15th place team won any Norris votes? And if they did, how many of them were higher than 4th place votes?

Also, his main task the past two years under JM was to be a shutdown defenseman and play against other team's top lines. As the 2nd highest SH TOI/G for the Montreal Canadiens during the 2011-12 season, he helped lead the team to a 2nd best PKing %.

Yes you haven't said anything negative, but you haven't said really anything positive either and make excuses as to why you think PK isn't that great. It's simple, I can see it in the delivery of your posts.

So 8th in Norris is great. How is that possible when you play 3rd highest minutes on your team? You score a ridiculous amount of points...on the power play. But, not only did he have a ridiculous amount of PP points, he also had the highest PP TOI/G on his team, and one of the lowest SH TOI/G on his team. Sound familiar?

Again in 2006-07, low SH TOI/G, high PP TOI/G and a high ES TOI/G while still putting up a lot of PP points in the process.

During his Norris runner-up season, he produces better at ES while maintaining high ES TOI/G, high PP TOI/G and a little better SH TOI/G. But the reason he got 2nd in Norris is because he scored 60 points in 82 GP

That is all Dion Phaneuf has really ever been. His defensive game has come a long way, but it's not better than where Subban's defensive play is right now.

Is this your top 6 for TC? Why is Phaneuf even on there. Guys who are essentially better than him offensively (Mike Green) and better than him all around (Seabrook, Bouwmeester, Hamhuis) should be looked at before him.

Subban is not better than:

Weber
Keith

Doughty and Pietrangelo is arguable. Phaneuf, at this stage of his career, is worse than Subban all-around.

He has a shot, but I have 8 D above Dion Phaneuf to make the team.

I don't think he left it out by mistake...

What? How? Franson had more points in less games and Less AVG TOI/G. WAY LESS. He had, on average 7 more MIN of TOI/G than Franson and only had 1 more point. That's crazy.

I don't know what else he has to do to prove that he currently is and will be better than Dion Phaneuf. He won a Norris by age 23. Phaneuf won a Norris...when? Exactly.

He's better than Dion defensively and he is better than Dion offensively. Enough said.

I don't discredit the Leafs for making the playoffs during this shortened season. However to say things like "Subban isnt even on the ice for important situations like during the last minute of a 1 goal lead" is wrong. And look what happens when Phaneuf is trusted in situations like that, he lets the Eastern Conference Champions score to tie the game and send the game to OT (when the team was up by 3 goals almost 10 minutes before) where the team eventually loses. Oh yeah that's awesome to have.

Phaneuf is a pylon. If you want proof I can show you in a video. To me, he'll just be a slightly worse offensively Mike Green, who has actually played really well defensively over his injury riddled seasons (past 2 or so years).

You should make your dislike for Phaneuf a little more obvious next time, it was hard to pick up on in this post.
