We MUST sign Price ASAP
 

Face it, Price is almost the lone reason the habs are decently competitive (by that, I mean we got hopes of more than 1 playoff series, competing with cup champions, etc). He's on the last year of his 2.75M deal and PG doesn't have the dumb Gainey policy of not signing players until July 1st.

Now, one thing that stresses me is does he want to sign here long term ? The montreal fanbase did treat him like **** on a number of occasions (2009 playoffs w/ the Roy thing, Halak trade, etc). I just hope he's the kind of guy who gets past that stuff and he still likes it here.

Given that he is our franchise player, money/term have basically no conditions. To me he is already a top5 goalie worth Lundqvist/Bryzgalov money. 6M+ 7M+ whatever give it to him. Sign for as long as you can. Sign him 20 years if the league would allow it.

Inking him right now at the beginning of the season would demonstrate the tremendous confidence management (hopefully) has in him and give him additionnal security incencitives, allow him to focus more on his play. As the season progresses, his monetary value will only keep growing if anything. Also the management will be fully aware the future is based on him, then they can get big tough guys so other teams will stop crashing at him :shakehead

Do it PG. Everyday additional day you haven't signed him you've done your job poorly to me.

people thinking he'll sign for 5 millions or less are dreaming. It won't happen. He's one of the top goaltenders in the league. He knows it, and his agent knows it even more.

I agree. Im tired of overpaying ****** UFA veterans 5-7 million $ at the end of their career. It s time to sign our best prospect long time and not ufas. lets start with Carey and then proceed on signing Subban as well.

Sign them both to 8 - 10 year contract in the 6M range.

But what about Halak ?!

Subban doesn't deserve 6 millions. Myers got 5.5. Subban deserves less than Subban. 4.5-5 seems better.

At least 5M if you sign him now. Around 6M if he has his best season (or equal) this year and you wait at the end of the season to sign him.

Subban hasn't even looked that good. Weber looks better right now.

If PG trades Price instead of Halak, the franchise is set back 5 years.

Like none of you would have forgotten, we are paying Scott Gomez 7.3 million. Anything under 9 million for Price and I'm happy. And 10+ years please.

Things rarely go as planned in the NHL, and it's even more the case in Montreal, for a goaltender.

No, I don't really want to sign him until he's 45 years old. Sign him for 15 years, then maybe a few smaller years like Brodeur. Then he retires HHOF bound with multiple cups and he can become habs President.

He is RFA, so MTL has the upper hand. However, i believe that he might have arbitration rights.....have to check.

Dont forget that mtl offered him 5 years and Carey insisted on only 2years.....,,you can draw your own conclusions.

If he wanted to leave as fast as he could, 5 years was a good term, that would have brought him to UFA after it.

The conclusion I draw from this is that Price was aware he wasn't worth a lot at the moment and wanted to sign for more next time.

This will happen all in good time

He is a RFA, so no worries we can match any offer if it ever went that far.

PG dosen't have the same philosophy of what Gainey had, he will talk contract during the season. I think it is in PG mind frame that he wants to sign Price, Subban and Gorges all to multi-year long term deals. Don't be surprised to see all three of those deals announced together during the season.

All about duration. If negotiations carry on to this summer, I see the chances of him signing longterm reducing. I want to witness 10+ years of a prime kickass goalie, not 5.

With the CBA expiring I doubt that Price gets a contract until it's resolved.
