Edmonton Journalist Links Oilers to Del Zotto

Edmonton journalist feels the Oilers, who are looking for an offensive defenseman, should look to move one of their young forwards for Del Zotto. Taylor Hall anyone? http://www.nyrangersblog.com/2011-ar...del-zotto.html

Reijo R 10-10-2011 08:19 AM

Sure! MDZ, Kreider and 2012's 1st rounder for Hall. You wanna give that up, because that's what it's gonna take?

NickyFotiu 10-10-2011 08:19 AM

Thanks for the link. It just sounds like 1 writer speaking hypothetically about what he would do not that the Oilers are actually looking to trade for MDZ.

bulax17 10-10-2011 08:22 AM

Totally agree. But it is interesting. Lots of Rangers fans would be looking to ship Del Zotto out in a second especially if they could get a young Edmonton forward in return. Eberle?

SupersonicMonkey* 10-10-2011 08:37 AM

MDZ for MPS.

Only way it works.

And then we would have to make a move for Gunnarsson or Franson.

Dubinsky. Richards. Gaborik
Paajarvi. Anisimov. Callahan
Fedotenko. Stepan. Zuccarello
Rupp. Boyle. Prust

When Staal returns:

Staal. Girardi
McDonagh. Sauer
Erixon. Gunnarsson/Franson

What a joke there's no way we give away DZ for just Hall. Put Hopkins in and a conditional 3rd and we've got something going...oh and they have to take Redden and Drury's salary

Isn't Hemsky UFA this summer?

Del Zotto, Wolski for Hemsky and 2nd rounder/prospect?

Why would we trade DZ, a young promising d man, for a rental? Hemsky is also made out of glass.

Melrose_Jr. 10-10-2011 08:40 AM

Yah, definitely seems like he's just thinking out loud. I think we could all name several EDM forwards of interest. Like he said, no shot an NYR blueliner is going anywhere in the near future.

I would do something like:

MDZ + for Paajarvi

Or:

MDZ for Hemsky

Wolski is in it just as a salary dump, MPS would be better I'm not so sure if the Oilers are willing trade him.

Not sure if I'm a fan of trading him but we need wingers and Oilers got plenty.

Paajarvi is going to be a dominant force in this league for a long time. I would give quite a bit for that kid.

Id give Del Zotto plus any prospect not named Kreider, Miller, or McIlrath.

My thinking exactly.

I would do that in a heartbeat.

The only thing is that wed have to make a second trade bringing back a defenseman that can eat up some minutes competently.

Gunnarsson or Franson.

Unless they wait for Staal to come back and plan on playing Woywitka or Eminger as the #6.

Well, the Oilers and 'young forward' part has me excited, but lets remember that Del Zotto is the one and only puck moving defenseman left in our system.

We ditched Sanguinetti (smart), passed over Fowler (idiotic), and left 3rd Pairing Pashnin in Russia (Probably best for both parties)

Trxjw 10-10-2011 09:04 AM

Eh, likely just drumming up some discussion. I don't think Edmonton would deal any of their young guys this early in their rebuild, and I don't think the Rangers would deal Del Zotto unless it was for an immediate upgrade to our lineup.

DrSutton* 10-10-2011 09:07 AM

Paajarvi and it's a done deal. Love that kid. Add picks to balance out if neccessary.

****, I'd throw in another first and then still run away laughing.

FutureGM97 10-10-2011 09:12 AM

If we trade a defenseman then one would have to be coming back

And that is exactly why I would not trade DZ as quickly as other people would. The kid is 21 and has already proven that he could be an above average scoring defenseman. I think if he is traded, that leaves a huge gap that we will have to fill by trading for someone or signing a UFA- which is not the right way to go IMO.

They may if they feel they have enough young forwards and need a young defenseman. The Rangers may feel they can finally start dealing some of their young depth d-men and its possible a team like Edmonton would look at MDZ + Kundratek + Hagelin as a decent package for 1 of their young players.

Eh, I wouldn't say "only" just because Parlett has upside in the puck moving department, but we're certainly thin in that department. Wouldn't be surprised to see us go PMD in the first round this year. Should be a very good draft for offensive d-men.
