Q preseason is already underway.

FWIW, Preseason updates:

Aug. 19:

B-C 7
Rimouski 4
-Tobin 1A, +1
-Hrdel DNP

Aug. 20:

Rimouski 7
Chicoutimi 7
-Tobin 1A, +2
-Hrdel 2A, +2

Aug. 22:

PEI has played 4 preseason games with Boutin rightfully sitting out of all them. Their fifth is today and Boutin has made his debut, letting in 4 in two periods. I'll post the final later today or tomorrow.

I'm going to unstick some stuff and put links in the "board info" thread, if anyone can't find something they need, let me know.

Woot. Thanks for keeping track for us, Chad.

Oceanic39* 08-30-2004 10:07 AM

Sure. It might be the only hockey to follow this year.

Well, if there's anything more wide open than Q-hockey, it's pre-season Q-hockey.

Halifax 8
PEI 5
-Boutin No Decision, 16/20, pulled after 2nd (most teams play 2 goalies in preseason, though one could speculate)
-Apply Luongo vs. USA excuse here: _____________

Rimouski 9
B-C 8
-Tobin NS, 6 pim
-Hrdel DNP
-Oceanic field goal kicker an un-Grammatica like 3 for 3 from 40+.
-Crosby off to a rough start in his first appearance of the year. He only scored 7 points.

Note: WHL camps open this week.

And who do we need to kill to get this kid? :D

I'd say ourselves, but we couldn't drop that far in a year. The bottom 20 teams of the league? Talk about a purge.

There's no way we get Crosby. No getting our hopes up like the Panther fans.

Erik 08-30-2004 07:29 PM

Too bad the Panthers are a much improved team.....

They better hope Luongo breaks his leg in the World Cup!!

Oceanic39* 08-31-2004 09:21 AM

Um, yeah, too bad.

We hadn't heard that in the previous 4 preseasons.

oh, wait...

Nevertheless... there is no way we end up with Crosby unless we happen to make a trade with a lower team for a #1 (extremely doubtful) and that team wins magically wins the lottery (highly + extremely doubtful).

I think the Rangers will end up with him *somehow... the same way the Knicks ended up with Patrick Ewing.

More preseason:

PEI 4
Halifax 3
-Boutin W, 12/15
-Trap-happy PEI outshot Halifax 56-15.

Rimouski 6
A-B 1
-Tobin 1G, 9 PIM, +2
-Hrdel 1G, 1A, +1

Regina 4
Med. Hat 2
-WHL doesn't list stat sheets. No mention of Zapletal in Regina game summary.

Correction on the Halifax game. The shots were reveresed. I was at the Game. Boutin stoped 53 of 56. 34 of those shots came in the 3rd period and i am not kidding LOL Boutin played well.

Oceanic39* 09-14-2004 12:50 PM

Thanks, Laprise.

I got those shot stats of the Q-site. They must have had it wrong.

Thanks.

petec1978* 09-14-2004 01:14 PM

Well now we know Boutin should have the rust off for tonight's game.

Oceanic39* 09-17-2004 06:45 PM

Q started last night.

PEI starts tonight.

I'm listening online. Richards is at the game, being interviewed at intermission.

1-0 PEI after 2. Boutin in net.

Oceanic39* 09-17-2004 07:52 PM

Halifax 1
PEI 1
-Boutin T, 0-0-1, 25/26, 1st Star
-Boutin made 12 saves in the first and was scored on in the mid/late third when a dman failed to clear the zone and it came back to haunt them. Churchill was amazing at the other end (by the sounds of it, anyway), and should have had first star. Announcers seemed surprised he only got the 2nd.

NIIIIIICE. Hopefully playing in the tournament got him ready for this years season in the Q. I was talking to him and he was saying that the tournaments speed was a lot faster than that of the QMJHL.

Oceanic39* 09-18-2004 07:12 AM

Your boy Zapletal (hehe) had a goal last night in an E-game vs. Brandon.

Good for him. He's a good kid and I'm curious to see how he produces this year in the WHL. I would say around the 20-25 point mark assuming he plays the full season.

Oceanic39* 09-18-2004 10:48 PM

Rimouski gets started...

Rimouski 6
R-N 3
-Hrdel 1+1, 2 PIM, +2 (EN goal, PP Assist)
-Tobin NS, 4 PIM, E

Oceanic39* 09-19-2004 08:08 PM

Boooooooooooooooooooooouuuuuuutin.........

Boutin shuts down a second top Q team in three days. Moncton and Halifax are both among a select group of favorites to come out of the Q for the MemCup.

PEI 3
Moncton 1
-Boutin W (1-0-1), 28/29, 1st Star (again)
-Boutin holds Pineault, Graham and Bernier off the board.

Rimouski 7
Val-D'or 4
-Hrdel NS, E, 0 PIM
-Tobin NS, E, 2 PIM
(Crosby 1+3)
(I don't like that Rimouski scored 13 goals in two days and Tobin couldn't manage an assist.)

Sotnos 09-19-2004 08:49 PM

Boutin Wall, very cute :)

Nice that he's off to a good start, he had such a rough year last year.

At least the first part. He had a shutout in his first start for PEI after the trade and from there played very well. If you take his PEI numbers and throw away his Halifax numbers last year, he's a top-3 goalie statistically in the Q for the regular season. His PO numbers were outstanding.

Still very raw, but coming along. If he gets the majority of the starts for PEI and he continues to play like this - it will do great things for his confidence, which is fragile (at least from what it looked like in Halifax last year).

Oceanic39* 09-20-2004 01:07 PM

A little bit of follow up...

Boutin lost his shutout in the last minute of the game. Too bad.

Also...

PJ Atherton is red-shirting this year for Minny.

Oceanic39* 09-22-2004 09:09 AM

Boutin wins again. Rimouski (#1 Q, #2 National) gets smoked.

According to THN, PEI is ranked 12th in the preseason in the Q alone. He's beaten #2 and #3.

PEI 5
Cape Breton 2
-Boutin W (2-0-1), 16/18 (first road win)

Chicoutimi 9
Rimouski 2
-Tobin NS, -3, 5 PIM (+ Game Misc.)
-Hrdel NS, -3, 2 PIM

WHL, OHL open this weekend.

LaLaLaprise 09-23-2004 12:04 PM

Darrell Young is impressed by his start, i talked to him the other day. But he doesnt expect it to continue :amazed:

I dunno, maybe he just worded it wrong, or he figures Boutin is playing over his head.
