Leafs pursuing Brenden Morrow

MacLean and Kypreos mentioned it during the first intermission of the Leafs/Avs game and im surprised no one posted it. MacLean mentioned that Burke is looking for a little more truculence in his top six.

FLAMES666 10-17-2011 09:49 PM

So was Morrow actually mentioned? I highly doubt Dallas trades Morrow

jcorb58 10-17-2011 09:51 PM

The Leafs would have to be willing to give up something substantial to get Morrow. I cant see Dallas wanting to give up their captain.

Yes.

But this is Kypreos, so there's not much to make of it until "those ******** at TSN" chime in.

TheLeastOfTheBunch 10-17-2011 09:51 PM

Would love to have him..

Will be pricey though.

Yes, they mentioned him by name and that Burke was snooping around.

Yzerplan 10-17-2011 09:51 PM

I'm sure Toronto would love to get Morrow...so would pretty much every team in the NHL. Its not going to happen. Never the less, people will still post in this thread stuff like, "well, if Dallas was offered this player and this prospect oh, oh, AND a 1st round draft pick they'd be STUPID not to do it!!!!11111"

Perfect_Drug 10-17-2011 09:53 PM

Wow.

So he's pursuing one of the best leaders and 2-way centermen in the game?

Imagine that.

Doesn't this fall somewhere between publicly admitting he was going for Tavares, when all he was offering were scrubs and AHLers?

yes, but they also mentioned dallas won't be making any trades until november, like every other team in the league. they also mentioned the asking price would likely be very high.

burke has been after a top 6 forward with size/toughness going on 3 years now. these rumours are just filler for pre game shows.

Morrows a left wing

and he didn't publicly admit any thing, sports net did ...

PJ StockBB 10-17-2011 10:03 PM

if he is actually available i would expect quite a few teams to be interested in him. i know he would make a lot of sense for the Bruins as well. i would be surprised if he was made available right now, but later in the season if dallas is out of the playoff hunt it would make some sense.

Call of the loonie 10-17-2011 10:05 PM

I think they also said that Morrow won't be going anywhere if the Stars keep winning.

SLAPSHOT723 10-17-2011 10:07 PM

I can't imagine he would be available, regardless of whether or not Dallas is winning. He's one of the best leaders in the game today and fits very well with Ribeiro. I don't see any reason for the Stars to trade him unless the package coming back is too good to pass up.

man don't post when you're only going to make such an idiotic post.

morrow isn't a center. and this is an analyst speculating, not Burke.

If we give up Morrow at the deadline Niewy should be hearing offers from multiple teams. Morrow is the type of guy a lot of teams would overpay for a playoff run.

I think next year he would be available, but this year he will probably stay in Dallas. Teams usually over pay when they think all they need is one rental player and they win the cup, because if he doesn't click, they don't want to be stuck with him past that season (cap is usually a problem for contenders) maybe caps next year ?

daveleaf 10-17-2011 10:11 PM

To me it's kind of a slap in the face to Lupul and MacArthur/Kullemin. I don't think either have been bad, in fact I like Lupuls game. I'm sure Morrow can help but at what cost, Kadri? Not worth it in my opinion. I would rather have someone down the middle than as Kypreos says, a 32 year old with a lot of miles on him.

Somebody should let Dallas know they have one of the best leaders and 2-way centermen in the game playing LW.

If we trade Morrow, we'll be listening to offers for literally every player we have over the age of 29.

I'd entertain offers starting around Kulemin+ if I were Joe.

No way, Kulemin pretty much is Morrow besides the experience and leadership, plus if we didn't move kuli for Richards no way he goes for Morrow

The Mentalist 10-17-2011 10:17 PM

One thing I have learned from Burke/Nonis trades, there are rarely leaks and they are usually players out of left field.

Agreed, I woulden't even make that trade straight up.

Kulemin is younger, and has more offensive upside. As Kypreos said, Morrow has a lot of miles on him already at 32.

It's not like Morrow has a bad contract, on the other hand he actually has a great contract at only $4.1M/year. Dallas could take salary back to make a deal work in any case.
Due to the fact that the guy is an amazing player on a relatively cap friendly deal and is NOT simply a rental player, he could fetch a very hefty return for Dallas should they choose to trade him away.

GordieHoweHatTrick 10-17-2011 10:27 PM

Morrow would be nice but certainly not for what Dallas Stars fans would ask for him. They're better off keeping him, unless they spiral down in the standings approaching the TDD

TML g u n n e R s* 10-17-2011 10:30 PM

price would be to high, would love him though
