Martinek Injured Again

Took a hard hit tonight and suffered a concussion. It's really ridiculous.

Sorry to hear but really..."Who would of thunk it?"

crashthenet 10-22-2011 09:23 AM

After the concussion he suffered in the spring this is truly unfortunate.

Hip Of Rick 10-22-2011 09:30 AM

Sucks to hear... but that is why you do not sign Martinek

El Big Cubano 10-22-2011 09:37 AM

Truly sad, one of my favorite Islanders and a real stand up guy. :(

I really feel for Jackets fans right now..yikes.

Hipietro 10-22-2011 09:42 AM

He is actually a very good defenseman when 100% healthy. Feel bad for the guy.

Veteran journeyman 10-22-2011 10:08 AM

Yeah, tough break for Marty. The hit didn't look horribly bad...a big hit, but I wouldn't have thought it was concussion big. He also sustained a concussion in the Worlds tournament during the offseason, didn't he? He better be careful.

Too bad...if he could have only stayed healthy, he'd probably still be an Islander, and I think our D would have been better for it. A healthy Marty is probably better than at least three of our current D. He and Witt were a pretty darn good shutdown pair in the Nolan days.

nyr2k2 10-22-2011 12:33 PM

Unfortunate. Martinek is a solid player when he can actually play.

Words Of Wisdom 10-22-2011 12:38 PM

Unfortunate, Good player when healthy

Isles Junkie 10-22-2011 12:39 PM

Such a shame.

I feel bad for him, but Snow definitely made the right decision on him.

Defiantly a smart move. good player when healthy but such a risk with his proneness. I am not surprised one bit about his injury

BillD 10-22-2011 06:11 PM

This poor guy has been cursed his whole pro career. What a shame for him. Hope he recovers quickly and fully.

Good player and I always been a fan of his game but the fact that he just can't stay on the ice has always been his problem hopefully this head injury crap doesn't hurt him long term.

DaMick 10-22-2011 07:50 PM

poor *******...

He was a good player here when healthy....hope he recovers.

AaronIsles 10-22-2011 09:42 PM

Here's to a quick recovery! It's a shame this guy has been injured so much.

PWJunior 10-22-2011 09:53 PM

The guy has been cursed. Absolutely unreal. As an Isles fan, I was shocked seeing people on here wanting to bring him back in a trade. As long as he's healthy, he can help us. Sadly, that is the #1 issue with him and that cannot be ignored.

Also as an Isles fan, you cannot help but feel for this guy. He was a good Islander and did the organization proud.

Anyone remember that game against the Canucks sometime in 2003 when a game-tying/winning goal was taken away by a injured Martinek down on the ice?

This poor man is cursed. Good player and great person.

Aucoin3 10-23-2011 08:41 AM

I would take 5 games of Martinek over 82 games from Eaton or Mottau.

That was a pretty infamous moment, it occurred during the peak ERA of the NHL conspiracy theories. It was one of the few times I honestly believed something was fishy, remember the Rangers were very much in contention for the postseason at that point. The replays clearly showed the up ice official who I believe was either Koharski or Devorski watching the play and without a doubt seeing Martinek go down and be down for several seconds, however; he did not blow the play dead til he saw Bates had scored, even though he had easily 3-5 seconds before this to blow the play dead. It was widely criticized on many merssage boards for days of being a Bettman order to get the Rangers into the playoffs. Thankfully the Isles overcame it but it was I believe a game tying goal with about 2 minutes left.

Well, let's be fair. 45-50.

But winning isn't everything, I guess. (hint: look at our annual records with/without)
