Alfie

Won't play against the Canes tomorrow due to a hip flexor injury.

Says it's not serious.

As per Travis Yost.

Edit: WTF is a hip flexor?

NOOOOOOOOOOOoOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!

L'Aveuglette 10-24-2011 11:24 AM

Well, obviously it's not a serious injury but this is a bad sign if he hasn't even played ten games yet and the wear and tear is already getting to him. Yes, I am worried.

Curtinho 10-24-2011 11:27 AM

And it begins...damnit. Here I was hoping for a healthy season. :(

Unserious injury = not worried. If anything this gives somebody else a shot to prove themselves for couple of games.

Just an extra maintenance day. We'll see how Spezz and the gang perform in his absence, he'll be crushing the Leafs Sunday, no worries there!

Holdurbreathe 10-24-2011 11:34 AM

Daugavins has been called up.

Flamingo 10-24-2011 11:35 AM

He's just getting the old-timer treatment. Rest if anything's sore. Preventative to make sure he lasts the whole season.

Jared Cowen 2010 10-24-2011 11:36 AM

Well...we're boned.

NyQuil 10-24-2011 11:37 AM

There is nothing unserious about hip flexors.

Penner getrdonebryan 10-24-2011 11:37 AM

If Alfie only misses a game here and there we should be happy. I think 65-70 games played for him would be considered a pretty healthy season.

Guys like Zibanejad,Foligno,DaCosta need to step up big time in Carolina.

**** man. I am equally unhappy at seeing Konopka stay in the lineup, as I thought K-Dawg will take his place. Double whammy to the balls!

metalfoot 10-24-2011 01:11 PM

Wondering if his attempted SH breakaway on Saturday night might have helped cause this?

OmniSens 10-24-2011 01:14 PM

so it begins

Did someone really think a hip injury to Daniel Alfredsson at this point is "unserious"? I saw the post too, didn't really know what to make of it.

Hip flexor injury is very common in sports, especially soccer, football, running, hockey, any sport really that demands explosive movements.

While they can be serious, I do think some of these posts are being slightly over dramatic in this case.

starling 10-24-2011 01:45 PM

WTF? Where's Filatov?

I'm with this. Would rather Alfie miss a maintenance game every 7-8 games than miss 10 in a row.

I'm well aware of hip flexors, I've had hip issues myself. They certainly can be serious, and when it comes to Daniel Alfredsson at this point in time, there really isn't anything unserious about it. He's had enough hip issues in the past:

And so it begins...

Rhino Reilly 10-24-2011 02:06 PM

They're saying on twitter its mainly just maintenance.

Personally, I hope he takes a few 'maintenance' games in the press box this year. It'll keep him fresher.
