Hope Gauthier doesn't trade another young player!..

With rumors flying around that Kostitsyn & Weber might be on the trading block to get hel on defense... I hope he doesn't jump the gun like he usually does.....

Here's a list of young players that he traded who are all regular with other clubs....

Matt D'agostini - St-Louis (4G + 1A / plus 7) - 3rd scorer on the club
Sergei Kostitsyn - Nashville (2G + 4A / minus 1) - 2nd scorer on the club
Mikael Grabovski - Toronto (3G + 1A / minus 1)
Guillaume Latendresse - Minnesota (1G + 4A / plus 3) - 2nd scorer on the club
Chris Higgins - Vancouver (3G + 2A / even) - 4th scorer on the club
Ryan O'byrne - Colorado (1G + 1A / plus 1) - plays near 17 min/game
Ryan McDonagh - NY Rangers (2G + 2A / plus 2) - plays 25 min/game!!!

All of these players are regulars and important for their respective clubs, and what have we got left for these guys, that are playing on the club right now....
Yes you guessed it! Scott Gomez (0G + 1A / minus 1)

Nice trades by Gauthier don't you think? So I hope Geoff Molson doesn't let Gauthier pull the trigger for another patchwork with Kostitsyn, Weber or any other young gun....

Well they weren't all Gauthier, but yes, we haven't had a great GM in awhile.

It shows how our system works. The young guys come in and either 1) have to play something they aren't comfortable with or 2) get benched or one or two mistakes.

Its the system/coaching that's sucked in the last few years. We need better coaching.

Stop ****ing patching a broken team.

Craig71 10-25-2011 06:12 PM

I wish we had Higgins, O'byrne and Matt D'agostini still on this team.

donghabs98 10-25-2011 06:12 PM

for the
Sergei Kostitsyn
Guillaume Latendresse
Ben Maxwell
trades we no nothing to show for them now

donghabs98 10-25-2011 06:14 PM

trading prospects for nhl players only work if you are a contender or going for the top
because then you have a real reason

quick fixes or patch jobs hurt after a while once you have nothing to show for it

also anyone remenber what we got for Mikael Grabovski

 So true.

Our management (like our fanbase) has no patience. Every single one of those players were getting killed by fans and media here. We don't give them time to develop. I always said we'd regret letting D'Agostini go. No one believed me. Guy is ****ing awesome now. Watch a St. Louis game, he's consistently one of the best players on the ice.

Ben Maxwell is a 13th forward and career ahler. He'll never be anything more.

Hey.. what are the winning lottery numbers tomorrow?

ChoseLa 10-25-2011 06:28 PM

Yep the only trade we've won in recent years is the Gorges/1st one.

Miller Time 10-25-2011 06:32 PM

Ryan McDonagh - NY Rangers (2G + 2A / plus 2) - plays 25 min/game!!!

the issue isn't so much that these players were traded (and while PG didn't make all of these trades, he was GM or head of pro scouting for each one, so certainly had big input), the issue is what we have to show for it:

Palushaj
Pateryn
Bournival
Gomez

that is a TERRIBLE ROI... and reflects the awful asset management that has plagued the team under the current leadership.

As an owner, if I bought into a team, and had these kinds of records on paper of the guys I inhereted in upper management, it wouldn't take long before a massive overhaul. Results speak for themselves.

this shows the decline of the team

in 2008 we were young and promising
we just had rookies called up and were making impact
price,Sergei Kostitsyn,Guillaume Latendresse,Maxim Lapierre

and in 09 Matt D'agostini and patches

but we have use that youth the wrong way and traded it all for quick fixes that have left town or traded it for picks and prospects(prospects will be jugdge later on)

this is our downfall
trading our assets way for quick fixes

then they show us what they can do on other teams

mangement has fail in this area

Funny considering Obyrne was the only Gauthier trade. And got a good prospect in return. Other trades were gainey. When I opened this thread I thought it was about Brock trotter. I was going to say Nokkaleinen is same age as Trotter I believe lol.

Anyways if our team doesn't turn around over next 5 games. Then my prediction is Grigorenko will be a hab lol

LyricalLyricist 10-25-2011 06:46 PM

Wait, you can't use that arguement. If I trade AK for a first overall pick in the next 5 drafts. There isn't anyone playing for us right now. Stupid no? Bournival, Palushaj, Pateryn... Not a huge return by any means, but should remove d'agostini, o'byrne from the lsit at least. Even grabovski we got a 2nd and a 5th basically for him. Ya ya, he's worth more, but we had centers above him and he didnt seem to want to be with us. The rest I agree with though.

Also well known that Gauthier was Gainey's right hand man and THE guy Gainey would trust as far as pro scouting. Not too far fetch to think Gauthier was all for this.

And if Gauthier wasn't.....why the heck would he want Gainey around as a consultant?

Wow, so now people consider carle and maxwell good players? I guess it fits an agenda so switching opinions of players is okay.

No one belived in maxwell nor did they believe in carle.

The original list was fine. I miss lapierre but he wanted a bigger role, what can you do.

I agree as far as Maxwell and Carle. Was CLEARLY time to move on for both players. But Lapierre didn't want a bigger role.....he wanted A role. A role is able to play with the Nucks which would make us not use Cammalleri on the PK....

Maxwell and Carle are no big deals but they could had been our 13th forward and our 7th or 8th d-man.

Lapierre was the tall, fast rH 4th line centerman we had, and that we gave away.

PyrettaBlaze 10-25-2011 07:23 PM

Ugh... Looking at that list makes me sick.

We also won the Eller/Halak trade. But I agree with the OP, that is ridiculously poor asset management.

Rise from the Ashes 10-25-2011 07:34 PM

Many of those players could not be sent to the minors and were not playing well or had attitude problems. Montreal is a complicated, pressure filled city. We still do have good young talent coming up. The real problem is the habs' unwillingness to tank. Every good team around the NHL has elite talent. Our only elite talent, besides maybe Subban is Price, and we fluked out in getting him. I do not mind Martin, but I really dont like Gauthier. He just looks like a sneaky character.

Quarantesix 10-25-2011 07:40 PM

It's too late or too soon for a trade we have 9 NHL defensemen when Markov and Campoli come back. And we can't afford losing one of our offensive forward on the or in the system

Gauthier can only pray the Habs go 2-1 for the rest of the week and if they don't he need to fire Martin and hope the new coach help the team clinch a PO spot.

If the Hans miss the playoff Gauthier and Martin are gone
