Top 30 for 2012 and 2013, a few names to watch for 2014

I've been doing a lot of reading lately... yeah I haven't seen a lot of these guys play but neither have you. It's fun to make lists and if you educate yourself enough, do some good sleuthing, reading, "armchair scouting", etc. you can make lists just to get a list OUT there to talk about.

Just use this as a rough idea of who's who... I know about the 2012 draft, a bit about 2013, and really nothing about 2014...

Keep it nice.

tsn had gaunce at 8, don't think he will fall to 26th

Nice work. I would like to know if 2013 looks good in terms of forwards with elite potential. I know its early, but I see lots of forwards near the top of your list. Could this be like 2006 where the top 15 was essentially forwards (and for the most part, good to decent ones).

Pick Six 10-25-2011 10:26 PM

Nicholas Ritchie is definitely one to watch for 2014. He's a late 1995.

Jabba11 10-25-2011 10:30 PM

Grigorenko and Forsberg too low on your list. And as a Q fan, I'd say that Raphaël Bussières should be ahead of Luca Ciampini and Hudon as of right now. He's a mix of size and offensive raw talent; just needs to put it all together and sometimes lacks of drive during games.

2013 is looking like a very good year. A few say it could look better than 2012, but time will tell. Though, that top 10 is filled with some insane talent. ('13)

Garl 10-25-2011 10:34 PM

So, you left Collberg off the list?

And for 2013, Lindholm? Liljendahl? Crus-Rydberg?

TheOrganist 10-25-2011 10:39 PM

Taylor Cammarata is really skilled but he might be 5'5"

Collberg was an oversight, and I don't know about the 2013 Swedes so obviously I couldn't comment.

Granlund2Pulkkinen* 10-25-2011 11:42 PM

And another thing Garl I'm not going to list 5 Swedes in 2013 when there are North American kids tearing up the CHL.

Krnage 10-26-2011 12:11 AM

6 Lazar Curtis Center Edmonton Oil Kings WHL CAN

I tough he was listed more higher

Granlund2Pulkkinen* 10-26-2011 12:13 AM

A few Finns for 2014:

Waltteri Hopponen
Teemu Lämsä
Atte Mäkinen
Miro Mäkinen (Twins)
Jonne Yliniemi
Antti Kalapudas

You could argue him ahead of Cammarata on basis of height... but I couldn't put him ahead of Monohan, Jones, and obviously MacKinnon

Jason MacIsaac 10-26-2011 12:43 AM

Hudon is way too high. He is tiny and an average skater. Combined together this makes him far too much risk to go top round.

Granlund2Pulkkinen* 10-26-2011 12:54 AM

Michael Cramarossa is apparently a hot item coming out of Canada for 1996.

I'm curious for Garl, Tiger, Scoutman, Tormentor, etc. to join.

Should Patrik Koys be on your watch list for 2014?

Slippy 10-26-2011 07:46 AM

As a Halifax Moosehead fan,I'll be interested to see where Jonathan Drouin slots into 2013 draft rankings. He was taken 2nd overall behind MacKinnon, but has chosen to play one more year of Midget AAA in Quebec, where he is dominating the league. He could have easily played in the Q this year.

Only saw him play at the Canada Games, so it will be interesting to see him against the bigger older talent.

Jaakko Hälli should be the top prospect from Finland for the 2014 draft. Juuso ikonen won't be top 15 if he doesen't grow more. He's the most talented player offensively from Finland for the 13 draft. Barkov should be considered as top 5 pick like you have maybe even 1st overall, he seemed to be better player than galchenyuk and grigorenko already atleast at ivan hlinka where he was dominant at every aspect of the game. Interesting to see barkov at wjc against canada and USA. Rasmus ristolainen is about mid 1st round pick. He has hard time at positioning at own-zone which is important for d man.

kitsumo 10-26-2011 08:49 AM

I don' think Juuso Ikonen should be ranked so high yet. Dude is really small and hasn't really impressed that much. If he grows he could have a chance to be a first round pick, top 15 not so much.

What do you mean hasn't impressed much? 7+9=16 points in 11 games of Jr.A a year before his draft year isn't impressive to you? Thats roughly the same pace Granlund had at the same age

But yes, he's small and I do agree that 15 is a bit of a reach. Not saying it's impossible, he might still grow an inch or two, and he's already taller than Rocco Grimaldi for example.

My opinion is that the third best finnish player for the 2013 draft is Artturi Lehkonen. He's over a PPG in Jr.A, and plays the biggest minutes out of his teams forwards.

Not on the same talent level with Ikonen but he has gotten bigger, has great work ethic, very good finisher. Doesen't miss chances very often(rare ability for finns). Artturi Lehkonen is top 5 finnish player for that draft no doubt. He's not as talented as Ikonen who is very very talented but Lehkonen could be +6'0 at the draft which will give him the edge. I think he was about 5'8 last year now hes 5'10.

dean youngblood82 10-26-2011 09:34 AM

Nicholas Ritchie will definitely be highly coveted for the '14 NHL Draft. Get him on your radar. Big talented forward.

Marcantuoni continually keeps getting ranked waaaay higher than he should. He hasn't proved anything and I would be skeptical taking him any higher than 15th at this point in time.

Love lists though so well done.
