Zibanejad back to Sweden

Murray just said.

MatthewT 10-26-2011 12:45 PM

Don't mind this decision

SENSfreak_03 10-26-2011 12:46 PM

Fine with this, he wasn't wow'ing (yet) and saves a year of ufa.

DJB 10-26-2011 12:47 PM

Where and when did he say this?

If so it's the right decision. It's stupid to have a 6th overall pick playing 3rd and 4th line minutes with Zach Smith and Neil, he won't develop his top 6 skills by doing so.

His Swedish coached has already assured hinm of playing on the top line and 1st pp unit...

Marty Straka 10-26-2011 12:47 PM

Probably for the best.

Ghost in the Shell 10-26-2011 12:47 PM

"Murray asked Alfredsson to have a talk with Zibanejad after the news was broken to him."

Kid must be down right now.

ReginKarlssonLehner 10-26-2011 12:47 PM

Excellent decision.

Will thrive offensively there and get a better chance.

Leave Spezza Alone 10-26-2011 12:47 PM

So long.

All over twitter about a minute ago.

Either scenario would have been fine. Personally, I would have kept him here.....but, I don't have a big problem with sending him back to Sweden.

The Mars Volchenkov 10-26-2011 12:50 PM

This is the right move, especially if he's going to be the top center over there.

He didn't look ready offensively.

The Expert 10-26-2011 12:50 PM

Based off his play in the 9 games, I don't think anyone can say he deserved to stay.

Good move, I'm sure he'll have a great year and come back next year much more prepared, and with the knowledge of what to expect.

D0C 10-26-2011 12:51 PM

Not sure if I like this.

We'll be in the same position with him next year. He'll try to get accustomed to the N-A rink size and will go through the same process as he just did.

In my opinion, we should have kept him here and help him develop his skills at the NHL level. Only thing that keeps me from disliking this decision is the fact that he is 18 years old.

Ghost in the Shell 10-26-2011 12:52 PM

Rundblad just lost his best buddy and roommate.

Ishdul 10-26-2011 12:52 PM

Absolutely the correct call.

Sensation 10-26-2011 12:52 PM

Right decision.

FolignoQuantumLeap 10-26-2011 12:52 PM

I approve. Now it'll be interesting to see what happens at center with Regin likely out for a long time. I'm guessing this opens the door for Da Costa to play more.

Andre Benoit Bawls 10-26-2011 12:53 PM

This, I agree with.

except he played a grand total of what, 25 games in the sel last year? let him spend the majority of the year over there, work on his puck skills, then back over. there's nothing wrong with it, and i want nothing less than for him to top out as mike fisher.

Flamingo 10-26-2011 12:54 PM

Oh well. See you next year, kid.

But next year, we'll have the option of sending him down to the AHL for seasoning and conditioning.

IMO, he looked overwhelmed and very tentative out there. Like he was playing to not make a mistake instead of his game.

WasTeD 10-26-2011 12:55 PM

See you next year Zbad!

That's another issue I have.

With DaCosta's recent play, I would have prefered having Zibanejad as the 2nd line center instead of him. Not sure who they'll put at that spot now, but DaCosta needs to step it up!

coladin 10-26-2011 12:57 PM

I don't know about this.

My worry is that Zibanejad may revert back to the SEL style rather than the NHL style, come back to camp and have the same issues. Is it his footspeed? No. Is it the phsyicality? No, he was playing like a man. Is it his positional play? All young players struggle but he was quite good, even blocked a critical shot last night. Is it his shot? No. Is it the speed of the game? Yes. So how does going back to SEL help him there?

On the other hand, it will give him time to work on his game, the finesse aspect. Work on his skill. I did notice that we trying to get rid of the puck more than trying to score.

I was hoping he would play 50 under the sens eye, play the World Juniors, be developed slowly like Seguin for the bruins last year.

it is not the end of the world. I think I am just greedy and wanted him now, but I suppose he will come back to camp with Silvferberg and who knows, maybe an instant duo!

Cowen Time 10-26-2011 12:57 PM

Daugavins strong camp, play in bingo, and game lasts night made the decision easier to. Good chance for Z to play in a more offensive role.
