Luongo for Brzygalov

Luongo (32): $5.3M until 2022

Bryzgalov (31): $5.7M until 2020

Would fans of either team be interested? Could this work?

From the Flyers' end: LOL no.

Luongo has proven to be bad over the long run in big situations.

Bryzgalov on the other hand has had a terrible start to the year, but has a history of being a good goalie.

There's a big difference there... plus Luongo's contract runs an extra two years, so no way.

And if you're talking about this from a realistic standpoint, Holmgren will NEVER admit he made a mistake and trade Bryzgalov. We've found this out several times before... it's the reason Jody Shelley is currently on our roster. It's the reason Andreas Lilja will be with the team for the entire year.

Plenty of Flyers fans already despise the notion of having a 31 year old goaltender locked up until he's 40. Having another locked up until he's 43 wouldn't go over well.

You mean liek, when he folded like paper crane against the Red Wings last year?

NitHeel 10-27-2011 09:48 PM

Yep, surrounded by all that Phoenix talent, he went out and lost that series to the lowly Red Wings.

He pulled a Chris Bosh in that series.

Well, I'm bolting for FA next year anyways. Meh.

Yes please, we save 400k on the cap and can bury him in the minors later on. And because Luongo is better.

I actually agree with this as much as I am not a fan of Luongo he has been better for longer then Brysgalov IMO.

You should probably look up the stats on the Coyotes defense those 2 years. It sure as **** wasn't their fault they lost. Bryzgalov is talented when he wants to be. The "talentless" Coyotes are making Mike Smith look amazing while Bryzgalov gets shelled. 3.45 GAA through 2020? Have fun with that.

Bryzgalov quit on the team in the playoffs. He was the worst player for Phoenix in that series.

Never said they were talentless - just that Detroit was far more talented.

Dude's had 2 great playoff years and 2 bad ones. I won't pretend to know exactly what he'll do and neither should you.

hbk 10-27-2011 11:37 PM

Philli could just send something Phoenix's way to let Bryzgalov talk to his old goalie coach in Phoenix.

Winroba 10-28-2011 12:32 AM

Heck no, if we're gonna be stuck with a goalie until the 2020's, then I'd much rather have the lower cap hit with a goalie who has proven more

I think Bryzgalov may be one of the only goalies in the league with a worse contract than Luongo

Bourne Endeavor 10-28-2011 01:18 AM

Luongo, off to a bad start, but has impression season stats and actually decent playoff ones despite the blow outs. Meanwhile Brzy has a larger cap hit and has been hughly disappointing in his first stint with a contending team. Yeah, why does Vancouver do this again?

Co Ho* 10-28-2011 01:22 AM

Too early to say.

The positives for Luongo:
His cap hit is $400k lower.
He's won a gold medal.
Received a Vezina nomination last year.
Made it to game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, posting 2 shut outs in the final round (albeit a bipolar performance).

Luongo has his ups and downs, that's for sure. I know many people believe he's mentally weak and falls off his game really easily, and those opinions are totally reasonable and legitimate. Maybe it's the homer in me, but I think he's still young enough (in his prime at 31) and has plenty of playoff experience now to really prove his worth. The next couple years will be make or break, that's for sure.

I'm beginning to learn that Luongo gets thrown under the bus a bit too often. Yeah, he could have made some more clutch saves in the finals, but I still doubt the outcome of the series. After watching games this season (with a very similar line up), it's clear that there isn't enough support and scoring to win games. I feel like the finals told a similar tale (but with plenty of injuries), and that Luongo wasn't really to blame (at least not nearly as much as this forum and city places on him).

VinnyC 10-28-2011 01:27 AM

That's the kind of deal that would make both fan bases sit down and cry.

Beef Invictus 10-28-2011 01:27 AM

Only if it's a three way deal involving the Islanders.

Where they get both goalies.

Burrows Bite 10-28-2011 02:29 AM

Luongo's contract is really 6 more years after this one. Come on guys, he's not really gonna play all 12 years. After that his contract goes to around 3 million dollars, which he won't play for. Its the lesson to both teams that these long term contracts are not worth it. Bryz is finding out what its like to play in a pressure market with that type of contract. Luongo knows that well.

The Gourmet 10-28-2011 02:44 AM

People who say no because Bryzgalov has a better track record than Luongo blow my mind.

El Duderino 10-28-2011 02:49 AM

Hell no. No. NOOOOO.

maplepred 10-28-2011 03:40 AM

Pfffft, id rather have bryz 99.9 times out of 100.
Especially if it was playoff time, then I'd rather have don cherry in net over lu

LEIFey 10-28-2011 07:01 AM

Impulse much? Bryz is having a rough start. It's too soon to jump ship already.
