Bring back a coach

Ok. So say JM is fired and we have to hire a new head coach - but we can only bring back one we recently had, out of Claude Julien, Guy Carbonneau, Michel Therrien and Alain Vigneault. Assume they are all available at the same salary. Who would you pick?

DekeLikeYouMeanIt 10-30-2011 09:56 PM

One can win apparently but whines like a *****, one doesn't know a 1st liner from a grinder, one is a headcase and the other is okay but couldn't get his stacked team motivated to win SCF Game 7. None.

Kriss E 10-30-2011 09:58 PM

None of the above.

SouthernHab 10-30-2011 10:00 PM

None.

Its just like divorce. Once a few years pass, you start to forget the reasons why you ended up getting a divorce. But if you get back together with your ex, you quickly remember. Never ends well.

You guys aren't playing fair. Assume you have absolutely no other choices, because I say so (isn't that enough? :sarcasm:)

I even put the poll private just so you guys have the guts to actually vote ;)

Gary320 10-30-2011 10:11 PM

None. The only one I feel would work best with this group would be A.V. But do not want.

Quarantesix 10-30-2011 10:18 PM

add Guy Boucher and I vote for him

DekeLikeYouMeanIt 10-30-2011 10:18 PM

Fine. If I have to.. Vigneault. Therrien would be close but he would be worse than Martin is with the rookies/youngsters.

matCH penalty 10-30-2011 10:33 PM

Julien, so we can fire him again.

what this man said.

i know from experience he's right ;)

Out of those four, it would be Vigneault for the simple reason that he has shown that he can adjust his game plan to the direction the team wants to take. He was strictly a defensive coach until Mike Gillis met with him asking him if he could put together a more offensive system provided the players he needed. He's responded beautifully.

a 50 year old AV sounds enticing out of that list.

Besides being a good coach, he also manages the media very well and looks like he enjoys the heat.

Carbo having less votes than therien is quite amusing

JuJu Mobb 10-31-2011 12:08 AM

Jean Perron

Habs13 10-31-2011 12:14 AM

From that list, Alain Vigneault followed by Therrien. See what the problem here is, though? Here are four coaches that started off with Montreal, three of whom went on to do well once they learned the ropes with the Habs. We groom coaches for OTHER teams.

My choice isn't listed I say bring back Bowman as coach and GM

PunkinDrublic* 10-31-2011 10:21 AM

Head coach Kirk Muller ! Das it das all.

Protest the Hero 10-31-2011 11:28 AM

None of them.

Lshap 10-31-2011 11:33 AM

Unless Toe Blake crawls out of his grave and starts dancing to "Thriller", nobody.

number 11 10-31-2011 12:04 PM

Probably wouldn't call Carbo or Therrien as being groomed for other teams. It's probably just the result of hiring inexperienced coaches who get overwhelmed with a heavy job like coaching the Canadiens before getting adjusted.

Montreal is probably a market better suited for experienced coaches who can handle the heat.

maybe Carbonneau as a part-time assistant to show the guy how to take faceoffs.

Otherwise, none would be really an upgrade on Martin.

And Dr.Recchi... No one will take a day-off even if they have a broken vertebra...

Of this group Vigneault by a fair margin. Julien I had a lot of respect for when he left Montreal, but after watching the way his teams behave after the whistle and especially late in the game when they're losing, I frankly think the guy should be drummed out of the league. I suppose I should give him credit for realizing the NHL won't punish him or his team no matter how flagrantly they ignore certain rules (no goons in the final minutes, i.e.) Honestly Julien makes the league look like a bunch of amateurs and/or a bunch of Jacobs cronies. Either way, Julien's like Bettman to me- irredeemable.
