(Makes a pretty curious fantasy game in fact - form the best possible team out of active players who are realistically available for NT duty and are NOT world champions.)

Well there are few guys on this team atleast: Rämö, Vatanen, Lajunen, Wirtanen, Kuparinen, Enlund and Kontiola. Defence would be a big issue since Finland doesn't have too many defenders in NHL that would be available during Spring and those guys with a gold medal are the best we have left really.

I'm glad we get to choose some of those players who already have a medal to play for NT .

I tried to make some lines:

Peltonen - Immonen - Granlund
Aaltonen - Kontiola - Joensuu
Pyörälä - Kuparinen - Enlund
Komarov - Wirtanen - Pihlström
Pesonen

or if we put MG as a center..

Pesonen - Immonen - Enlund
Peltonen - Granlund - Joensuu
Aaltonen - Kontiola - Pyörälä
Komarov - Wirtanen - Pihlström
Kuparinen

Niskala - Kukkonen
Vatanen - Puistola
Jaakola - Väänänen

I like that first one better 'cos Immonen and Granlund have chemistry and Peltonen as a third wheel surely isn't a bad thing.

Haite 11-01-2011 01:50 PM

I believe Jalonen has stated that he'll keep together the Pesonen-Immonen-Granlund (e: haven't really thought of it as "PIG" line before, wonder why I've never realised it) line as long as no injuries occur. Since Immonen is good at face-offs, you could assume him to stay as the center, which is kind of a shame. Centering a line against top competition wouldn't hurt Granlund before his last off-season prior to his crusade in Minnesota, but naturally that's not Jukka's first priority.

It's not like MG and VP lack any chemistry between each other, either ;).

Actually I just don't like Pesonen and his playing style :shakehead . I think he's way too inefficient. Anyway, that (Pesonen-MG-Immonen) line sure is something great (but I don't think Pesonen makes it any better). And I also believe Jalonen puts them together.

Why is Pyörälä on the 2nd line instead of Peltonen? And IMO Kuparinen should center the 3rd line and not Wirtanen. Also I would like to see Enlund somewhere else than as a 13th forward.

The 1st defence pairing should have someone defensive defender instead of two offensive defenders.

Otherwise the lineup is as good as it gets.

Because he's played a lot recently with Wirtanen.

That's a nice fourth line right there.

I think that Jalonen doesn't want Peltonen and Aaltonen to play on the same line since they both like to hold and carry the puck quite alot.

I agree with this one.

To be Honest, I've never heard of Jonas Enlund before today.

And I agree with this one too. Vatanen is like a ticking time bomb in his own zone and his size doesn't help the cause.

I don't see how we could end up losing this tourney (:sarcasm:?).

That makes sense.

Haite 11-10-2011 06:51 AM

JM Aaltonen definitely likes to carry the puck, often even a tad too far.

On a more serious note, the game against Russia will start in few hours, and apparently it can be seen on MTV3 in Finland. I'm almost certain that there will be streams available too, possibly of a Russian broadcast.

SPMaximus 11-10-2011 08:50 AM

streams that are probably gonna work

finland - russia

sweden - czech republic

Russia playing a tight disciplined defensive game? Blasphemy! I must say I'm a bit surprised by their tactics.

JabbaJabba 11-10-2011 11:09 AM

Lol, new coach introduced trap to Russians. Very frustrating game to watch...

SPMaximus 11-10-2011 11:26 AM

nice one there Rämö :amazed:

worst power play ever =/

airforceones25 11-10-2011 12:08 PM

GOAL!... Vatanen w/ a canon from atop the circles

JabbaJabba 11-10-2011 12:52 PM

Disapointing game. Barulin stole it for Russia. PP needs to be better!

ElHefe 11-10-2011 01:43 PM

Vatanen and Granlund were both great. Pesonen was playing with Granlund and Immonen and at first he seemed lost but kept improving till the 3rd period. Granlund helped him alot with that though. Granlund is a really exceptional player with the way he knows where to pass the puck however his Datsyuk-shootout sucked big time. Vatanen moves extraordinary well and shoots like an artillery.

Haite 11-11-2011 06:37 AM

Lines against Czech Republic according to YLE.fi:

Mikael Granlund - Jarkko Immonen - Janne Pesonen
Ville Peltonen - Petri Kontiola - Juhamatti Aaltonen
Mika Pyörälä - Petteri Wirtanen - Jonas Enlund
Leo Komarov - Matti Kuparinen - Jesse Joensuu
Antti Pihlström

Janne Niskala - Sami Vatanen
Ville Lajunen - Jyrki Välivaara
Ossi Väänänen - Pasi Puistola
Topi Jaakola - Lasse Kukkonen

Niko Hovinen
(Karri Rämö)

Granlund on left wing and Pesonen on right is probably a mistake.
