Kopitar To CBJ

My friend, who shall remain nameless, but is a moron, wanted to see what you guys think of this trade proposal.

If we end up picking #1 overall:

1st
3rd
and Atkinson

For:
Kopitar

I think neither team would make the deal, but it's something he wanted to get opinions on. What do you guys think?

frito 11-01-2011 01:06 PM

payroll vs. salary cap = no way

blahblah 11-01-2011 01:08 PM

Can't afford it via the cap. In addition, do you really want to give up what would be a top 2 pick at this point?

As I said, I think the trade is rediculous. Also, it would be during the off-season, where we have a lot of contracts coming off.

Huselius - 4.75
Pahlsson - 2.65
Prospal - 2.5
Martinek - 2.2

That alone would cover the cost. I just don't think it would happen. But I understand my friend's reasoning, because Kopitar is proven, Nail isn't. Eh, it's something to think about when we're down in the dumps with another loss. Let's hope Thursday goes well.

You know as soon as the jackets are out of the playoffs they will on a 20-4-2 run and and screw up their draft position

Arch City Zach 11-01-2011 01:28 PM

Though now that I think about it, this would be a fun lineup, I made a few moves, traded Mason and picked up Schneider.

Honestly I'd probably do it. But LA wouldn't

Doug19 11-01-2011 02:06 PM

I'd rather try for Doughty than Kopitar. Kopitar just keeps us from adding to our pathetic D-corps.

Fro 11-01-2011 02:06 PM

Kopitar would be nice, but a trade I keep thinking and have posted on our board a couple times as well as the mains now

Nash
Russell

for

JMFJ
Bernier
cap dump (stoll)

that works best for us...a legit #1 dman, in many eyes a legit starting goalie, and a really decent #3C

I feel like that gives us the ability to do some things and add a couple of pieces up top with a bit more flexibility...

If we could get one of doughty or jj AND bernier I would legitimately have a tear of joy trickle down my face regardless of what we give up (assuming it isn't an embarrassing overpay)

As for the op, neither team likes this trade.

Fro 11-01-2011 02:46 PM

agreed wahsnairb....i think the trade i did helps us more than doing either a nash for kopitar or as on the mains, a nash for doughty straight up...

blahblah 11-01-2011 03:36 PM

Rick for JJ or Drew would cause a definite ripple through the hockey world. I haven't seen a structure that works yet, but interesting.

We have seen nothing from Bernier that shows he can play well behind a defense as poor as the Jackets.

true, but adding JJ moves everyone down a peg and gives us closer to a legit defense...

And moving Nash moves everyone up a peg and gives us further from a legit offense.

Timeless Winter 11-01-2011 03:49 PM

Anything that involves getting Anze on the CBJ is a good idea.

Time machine and a sniper.

cbj21 11-01-2011 03:57 PM

That's underpayment for Kopitar. Even if the first was 100% a #1 pick I would do that trade and add more in a heartbeat.

Jovavic 11-01-2011 04:05 PM

Even if you change Atkinson to Johansen, I doubt LA even pauses to think about it

We have Burke Junior folks. Kopitar is awesome, but he's no Phil Kessel.

Why should they? They are actually competing for the Cup.

NovaScotiaCBJ 11-01-2011 04:53 PM

LA traded away Scheen to win now. There is no way they would trade their number one center for some prospects regardless of their potential. They are trying to capitalize on the small window that there are entering into this year.

Good point, but they'd still have Richards locked in for a long time.

This is crazy talk. LA isn't going to trade Kopitar away. They're a Cup contender. Columbus couldn't do this because of Kopitar's $6.7 million cap hit. Additionally, Columbus would be crazy to trade for ANOTHER center! What the Jackets need are two very good defensemen.

Byrral 11-01-2011 08:31 PM

LA would never do this. Your friend isn't a moron but this hypothetical trade is moronic.
