Too bad that love isn't shared by Jay Feaster. I suspect that unless Polushin changes his stance on a few things we will never see him in a lightning uniform.

Russia
But 10GP 5-4-9 8PIM
Polushin 5GP 2-2-4 0PIM
Kazionov 7GP 0-2-2 6PIM
Bezrukov 9GP 1-0-1 4PIM
Vishnyakov 7GP 0-1-1 4PIM
Glukhov 5GP 0-0-0 2PIM

After a somewhat slow start But has exploded. Have I mentioned that he's good and we need to sign him? And Polushin is not hurt. Since Frolov, Zherdev and Saprykon amongst others have gone back to CSKA Polushin has been a scratch. He also is a little out of condition because he was off his feet all summer with the knee.

Wish we could/would sign both But and Polushin, but neither are coming over on a two-way deal I'm afraid.

Was hoping to see Kazionov with a bit more offense to start the season. Any ideas what line(s) he's playing on and how much ice time he's getting?

petec1978* 09-25-2004 10:55 AM

My presumption, with all the NHLers now returning to the RSL with the expiration of the CBA is that Kazionov, like many young players, will get 4th line IT at best.

petec1978* 09-25-2004 11:15 AM

Ramo's second start: a 6-0 shuout against SaiPa's Jr. A team. 28 saves on 28 shots. 2nd star of the game.

Akkanen hasn't played yet for Tappara A presumably because of the pulled groin he suffered in TC.

Polushin was back in the lineup for CSKA Tuesday. He has been sitting since the lockout started with CSKA gaining Zherdev, Frolov and Saprykin. He was held scoreless in a 3-2 loss to Molot Perm. Dimitry Bezrukov had an assist in the game.

But 19GP 5-6-11 18PIM
Polushin 6GP 2-2-4 0PIM
Bezrukov 18GP 1-2-3 14PIM
Vishnyakov 11GP 1-1-2 4PIM
Kazionov 12GP 0-2-2 10PIM
Glukhov 8GP 0-0-0 4PIM

But's production looks good on paper but his offensive output has screeched to a near halt since the lockout started and the NHLers came into the RSL.

And for those wondering... here is the Lightning Russian prospect's "Celebrity NHLer Who Joined My Team" List:

But (Yaroslavl) (5th place): Igor Korolev

Polushin (CSKA) (11th place): Anton Volchenkov, Andrei Nikolishin, Nikolai Zherdev, Alexander Frolov, Oleg Saprykin

Bezrukov (Molot Perm) (16th place, dead last): None

Vishnyakov (Dynamo) (1st place): Andrei Markov, Pavel Datsyuk, Alex Ovechkin, Maxim Afinogenov

Kazionov (Togliatti) (7th place): Dimitry Afanasenkov, Dainius Zubrus, Alexander Semin, Igor Grigorienko, Ivan Novoseltsev, Jussi Markkanen

Glukhov (Khimik) (10th place): None

After a slow start with his new team Eero Somervuori is now tied for 9th in the SM-liiga in scoring with 7 goals, 9 assists and 16 points in 19 games.

And after an adjustment period with the influx of the NHLers But is starting to do a little better against the higher competition in the RSL now. He has 7 goals, 9 assists and 16 points in 25 games. To put that in perspective his teammate, former first round draft pick of the Fecal Cats Denis Shvidki only has 4-4-8 in 25 games. Of course Shvidki always was nothing without Keefe and the contract killer to sponge off of.

Fredrik Norrena is third in the Elitserian in sv% and GAA behind Lundqvist and Kiprusoff.

Basically the vets you'd expect to be playing well are putting up numbers but none of the young Lightning prospects have really stepped up and done much of anything.

petec1978* 11-07-2004 08:43 AM

Karjala Cup starts the 11th. Somervuori, Norrena and But have made their respective national teams for the tournament. This year the EuroTour tourneys will take on greater significance from a player evaluation standpoint because of the influx of NHLers elevating the level of play.

petec1978* 11-09-2004 09:12 PM

Catching up with our Finnish Jr. A prospects...

Karri Ramo was recalled to the SM-liiga team by Pelicans. He gave up 4 goals on 35 shots his first game in.

And Karri Akkanen still stinks.
