Nice to hear Beaulieu has really improved his overall game. I could care less how many points he gets in juniors as long as he's working on making himself NHL ready.

montreal 11-02-2011 02:24 PM

While it's taken a while, NBC sports has finally announced a tv deal with the NCAA that will start in two months on the channel Vs on Friday nights. To those in the states that want to see some of our prospects in action, here's the schedule,

http://www.ncaa.com/news/icehockey-m...p-air-16-games

Denver- (Didier) 3 games
Dartmouth- (Walsh) 2 games
Michigan- (Bennett/Pateryn) 1 game
North Dakota- (Kristo/MacMillan) 1 game
Kishel- (UMD) 1 game

They are also showing the Hockey East playoffs, so if Northeastern (Quailer) somehow can win a round they could be on tv as well.

Can anybody that has seen him play could tell what kind of skater Nygren is ?

Is he mobile ? a good skater ? speedy ?

Because right now he could be a steal, because putting up those kind of stats with this kind of shot in a pretty good league is pretty good. I think he is the kind of guy we will see at 24 years old in the NHL and giving us the same kindof hockey has Diaz right now.

From the scouting reports I've read he's more in the MAB mold. PP specialist, obviously he could refine his game but right now his future looks like Hamilton's PPQB in the future.

I've been watching clips of him, he seems to move well. His shot seems to be his best weapon. I am assuming that they will leave him in the SEL next year, since they will have Beaulieu, Tinordi, Ellis and likely Pateryn all turning pro on defense next year, so perhaps he could be in the NHL by age 24.

What was Kesler's ceiling when he was picked by Vancouver with the 23rd pick of the first round? What was his ceiling in his rookie year in the AHL when he had 3 goals and 11 points in 33 games? What was his ceiling when he had 37 points in 80 games in 07-08/his fourth year in the NHL(just four years ago!)? Oh I'll tell you, the vast majority of people(including Canuck fans) thought that at the very best, he would become an elite third line center. People thought that he was not skilled enough to become a top-six player, let alone a a first line center!

Leblanc's resume is more impressive than Kesler's at the same age. I am not saying Leblanc will become a Kesler type player. However, if kesler can become the player he is today. Leblanc, who is more gifted than Kesler was at the same age(not counting size and speed) why can't he become a similar player?

Leblanc has (underrated) skill, decent size(of course he will have to bulk up), hard-work, hockey-IQ, leadership..etc. I would not be surprised if Leblanc became a near ppg player. In fact, Max Pac is now seemingly a second line player and possibly a bonafide first liner in the near future. Yet as early as training camp of last year the majority of people here thought that he would be nothing more than a decent third-liner.

There is no reason to assume Leblanc has no chance to develop into at least a second-line center/winger.

Dietz with a goal from the point early in the first! He's showing some great things so far this season!!

For some strange(and unknown) reason people label LeBlanc as a good 3rd line center because he is a good all around player...but he is still above average skillwise. If he develops normally and is playing 3rd line for us(in his prime at 24-25-26) then we will have a heckuva team.

3 goals, 7 assists in 16 games. He's also a +10 (second on the team). Duncan Siemens has one point more and is a + 1 only.

Those are pretty good stats indeed. Siemens isn't coveted for his offensive skills though... still quite impressive. Another great 5th round pick.

Leblanc never had Keslers physical package though. Kesler has one of the best size/speed combinations in the NHL...

When people are saying that Leblanc will never be Kesler, it's not a knock on Leblanc. It's simply that these people understand just how great Ryan Kesler is...

Can't we let him play more than a hanful of games in the AHL before trying to compare him?

I agree. Some are just saying that when Kes started out he was thought of as a 3rd liner with a bit of upside. That bit of upside turned into a PPGish Selke centre. Obviously it doesn't happen a lot that prospects exceed their upside, but it's called being optimistic while still grounded in reality.

Did you read this part of my post..."Leblanc, who is more gifted than Kesler was at the same age(not counting size and speed) why can't he become a similar player?"

Not only that you seemingly forgot the point of my entire post. Kesler wasn't always "great", far from it but his hard-work and other variables made him the player he is today. Leblanc is a more gifted player than Kesler was at the same age, why is it so hard to believe that Leblanc's hard work and other skills could make him become a kesler type player(ofcourse I do not mean a carbon copy)?

In Leblanc's draft year he was projected to be a third-liner at the worst case scenario, but likely a second-liner or if he maximizes all his skills a first line center(remember the Mike Richards comparisons?).

I do not not think most of us expect Leblanc to become a first-line center. I think the majority of scouts and fans expect him to become a second-line center. However, would it be so shocking if a projected second liner became a first liner? Happens fairly often.

Another outdoor game has been added in the NCAA as Steve Quailer will get to play against BC at Fenway Park on Jan 14th. Should be a great experience for him, Mac Bennett and Greg Pateryn are also playing in an outdoor game this year, the 2nd year in a row for Bennett.

Those are some pretty major qualities in hockey, I don't think you can take them out of the argument.

Leblanc also have pretty good speed and can improve that, plus it's not like the difference in size is that big (6'2 for Kesler, 6'1/6'0 for Leblanc) Leblanc need to fill out and that's it.

Not saying Leblanc will be better than Kesler, just saying with all his qualities and abilities we can't really put a third liner stamp on the guy right now.

Thanks guys, from what I saw I also thought that he was mobile, but I wish someone who had seen him live could comment. Has for the Bergeron comparison I don't think it's fair. I've saw some report saying Nygren is effective defensively, then again Bergeron would be better with Nygren size and grit. Nygren will never have Bergeron shot tho. Pretty interesting pick IMO.

Nygren has potential, but he's on the same team as Klefblom/Brodin who may take away a lot of his minutes by the end of this year or next. Klefblom is sitting a lot of games right now however, and neither seem to be viable options on the PP compared to Nygren. He was the PPQB on his team and led them to the championship(they only lost two games in three best of seven rounds) last year though which is always a good thing. I don't know if he'll become an NHLer but it would be nice if he turned into a late round steal. What I do know is he has the coolest first name of all our prospects.

Beaulieu didn't play tonmight in BC...must not be a bad injury as none of their fans knew what happened.

Monctonscout 11-04-2011 10:30 PM

Tinordi with an assist tonight in his first game back...+1...he now is 7 GP 0-3-3 +8 and 22 PIMs.

I never put the third line stamp on LL, always have said I think he can be a complementary guy on a scoring line or a go to guy on a third line.

But I don't think you realize how good Ryan Kesler is. You could make an argument he's a top 10 center in the game...

Friday Night In The NCAA

Western Michigan 3 Michigan 2

Mac Bennett with a goal tonight and Greg Pateryn with 2 assists in Michigan's 3-2 Loss to Western Michigan.

Bennett now has 1 goal and 7 assists in 9 games and Pateryn has 2 goals and 6 assists in 9 games, not bad for a 3rd rounder in 08 and a 5th from Toronto in 09. Hopefully both or even 1 can make it to the show.

Northeastern 1 Merrimack 1

Steve Quailer picked up another assist tonight in Northeastern's 1-1 tie against Merrimack. He now has a respectable goal and 3 assists in 4 games, much better so far this season after last seasons disappointing year, but he was returning from a serious knee injury so he gets a pass in my book.

Dartmouth 5 Quinnipiac 4

Dustin Walsh scored a goal bringing his yearly total to 3 points in 3 games, 1 goal and 2 assists.

Minnesota 2 North Dakota 2

A disapointing evening for Kristo and MacMillan as North Dakota gets shut out.

Minnesota-Duluth 3 Denver 2

The surprise of the year Scott Kishel who only played 7 entire games last year and had 1 single assist doubled his 10-11 output by scoring a goal and an assist in the Bulldgos 3-2 victory over the Pioneers. Kishel now has 1 goal and 5 assists for an impressive 6 points in 9 games. Josiah Didier did not record a point in the loss for Denver.

Go Habs Go folks! 4 in a roww! but still......Jacques gotta go!

I'll go as far as to think that your surprise of the year will not be signed at the end of the year...;)
