The Eastern Conference-leading Pittsburgh Penguins also placed six players on the ballot -- goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, defenseman Kris Letang, and forwards Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, James Neal and Jordan Staal.

Crosby has been stellar thus far.

SEALBound 11-10-2011 03:55 PM

I imagine he'll be first line...will most likely lead in votes...again...he's that good.

mpp9 11-10-2011 03:57 PM

That'd be unbelievable to have 6 players in the all star game. 3 centers, a winger, a defenseman and a goalie.

AgentM 11-10-2011 04:33 PM

Fleury and Letang definitely deserve it and Neal has been pretty darned good so far. Sadly Sid will get voted in even if he doesn't play a game all year.

Darth Vitale 11-10-2011 04:35 PM

Sorry but this is proof what a joke the All Star game has become. We're a month into the season. They ought to hold the voting in early December earliest and make the game a little later so it actually means something for the players. If you're going by stats, only Fleury, Neal and Letang deserve consideration.

If they ever cancelled the All star game, that would be fine with me. It really is awful. Having said that, if and when the next time they come to town, I will be there, haha. But I can't remember the last time I watched more than 10 minutes of it. It is so far removed from regular hockey that it is not enjoyable at all.

mpp9 11-10-2011 04:39 PM

Malkin at 75% is an allstar every year. And Sid will always get voted in no matter what.

The game itself is pretty terrible. But the skills competition is great to watch. Thought last year was pretty entertaining.

Agreed. I definitely enjoy that.

SidGenoMario 11-10-2011 04:50 PM

I can't wait until Crosby makes the all-star game with 0 games played.

JTG 11-10-2011 04:53 PM

I haven't watched an All Star game in 10 years.

Even the skills competition has been a little diluted, IMO.

Dan Barr 11-10-2011 05:11 PM

The team-picking thing last year was mildly amusing.

PensPlz 11-10-2011 05:17 PM

Corsby will be criticized for going to this years all-star game after he was criticized for missing last years.

OH THE IRONY!!!!

JalapenoPeppa* 11-10-2011 05:35 PM

What a joke hahah

Not only has Sid not even played, there definitely has not been enough games to pick out this years all-stars yet

Interesting that you say that, between the ages of 5 and 13 or so I would be so freaking pumped for the All Star game. I remember being at a soccer tournament held on All Star weekend and I was more concerned with trying to be back at the hotel so I could watch.

Wonder if kids still feel the same these days? Other than that it's really just a big hooplah for the corporate crowd.

I used to get so excited to as a kid. It was nice to see all of your favorite hockey card players play in the same game. I really don't think kids care these days, especially with all the exposure and access to content they can get on the web.

I haven't watched an All Star game in probably 12 years now.

For some reason, maybe it was just because I was a kid, but it seemed like guys cared more in the 90's and early 2000's. The whole game is a joke now.

I do watch the skills competition. Something about players riffling pucks at 100 mph, I like to watch. I also like the shooting contests.

I was the same way, and still am. I Love the ASG.

OnMyOwn 11-10-2011 10:05 PM

Sids first game will be the ASG.

TheStinger 11-11-2011 04:49 AM

Where is the Matt Cooke option?

JTG 11-11-2011 08:01 AM

Has Sid ever played in an ASG?

Man I loved the skills competition when I was a kid, I would go wild when it was finally that time of year
My favorite was always the target shooting at the 4 corners of the goal.

But back then I was a huge Yzerman fan  lol

His rookie year I believe, and that was it.

JTG 11-11-2011 09:56 AM

I would like to see some different competitions in the skills competition. I always wanted to see something like this...

Imagine like Datsyuk and Orpik or something like that where they are racing down the ice 1-on-1. Datsyuk is trying to dangle, and Orpik is trying to stop him. I think that would be highly entertaining to watch.
