Marco Scandella (Head Injury)

For a team which is lacking depth on the blue line, this is not good.

Well... Stoner will be back in the lineup... but I hope Lundin is close to returning, as we need to get Prosser the hell out of the lineup too!

That's a TERRIBLE news.

Anyways, that's a TERRIBLE news.

Hah, linked me to a dead thread which I inadvertently bumped. Oh well.

Terrible news about Scandella. :shakehead

Fel 96 11-13-2011 12:38 AM

Every time I read "head injury", it's gotta be a concussion.

Not good at all especially since it's not the first time.

Jarick 11-13-2011 01:01 AM

I don't like the Wild's odds for the next couple weeks. Losing the #1 defenseman on a shallow D team...yikes.

One thing that confused me was reading LA's GDT last night. They kept commenting on how well they were playing - especially against such a strong defensive team.

I was all... Uh, what? I thought we were regarded as having a weak defense, if not the weakest in the league.

:dunno:

We were playing good decent and holding on for dear life...no offense though.

If Lundin can come back soon this isn't a huge loss. To me, losing Lats is worse. Any update on Zanon btw? I could really care less if it takes a while for him to come back though.

Jarick 11-14-2011 09:04 AM

Russo said Zanon "isn't close" and frankly this team is far better off with him out of the lineup. All the kids have better legs, skating, and puck skills.

I agree we've been playing better without Zanon, but I think we'll have to play him a bit before the trade deadline. No team is going to make an offer on him sight unseen after a serious injury.

squidz* 11-14-2011 10:57 AM

Zanon has looked worse than he really is. He's a 4th-7th defenseman and PK kind of guy, but he was getting 20 minutes TOI and not paired well in his games. If you have the right defensive depth to keep him as a third pairing, or marginally second pairing guy, he's quite valuable. If you try give him more ice time or a slightly different role, he's going to be hurting.

But we're getting a bit off topic with this. Does anyone know if Scandella was sent back to Minnesota like Lats was? I haven't heard anything either way.

It's great news that he's working out. But at the same time, that doesn't bode well for Zids or Lats.

Surly Furious 11-17-2011 12:07 PM

Glad to hear he's feeling better

forthewild 11-17-2011 12:14 PM

Cautious optimism here, he might be working out and i hope for a quick recovery but with concussions you dont know when it goes south

Minnesota 11-17-2011 12:20 PM

Worst case scenario would be Scandella rushing himself back into play only to take another big hit. Another "rung bell" could end his career unless he's 100% ready to go.

wildman22 11-19-2011 02:55 PM

According to Russo (http://www.startribune.com/sports/wi.../57299562.html), he believes Scandella will play again on Wednesday

You are dead on I would rather see him sit a while longer

DeuceMN 11-19-2011 04:05 PM

Great to hear he's doing better! I'll be happy to see him back, when he is ready. He's been our best d this year, but we are making it work without him so no huge rush. Once he and Lundin get in the mix and that offence of ours meshes a little better, hot damn... If we're winning now, it will hopefully only get better!

zetterberg40 11-21-2011 11:27 AM

any kind of update?

Jarick 11-21-2011 11:44 AM

He's practicing today for the first time since the injury. I think he's feeling fine and hopefully will be back in the lineup for the next game.
