Injury plague has started.

So until Whitney's back...

Too bad for Barker. I didn't like his game much so I'm not too sad as far as the team goes but if injuries continue to pile up, missing him will be pretty bad.

Oilbleeder 11-17-2011 01:17 PM

That really sucks for Barker.

Do we sell the farm to get a replacement or does EDM stand fast and recall Chorney and hope he passes through waivers. Personally I would like to see Chorney be given a chance.

Right now EDM would be dealing from a position of weakness if they went looking for a D, might be best if they tried to wait for Whitney to get back. It's not like we thought we would make the play-offs this year.

Why would the Oilers do this when they have 6 healthy defensemen in the line-up that are all better than Chorney? However we should probably bring someone up as a number 7 until Whitney is ready to return.

backhandsauce 11-17-2011 01:22 PM

Too Bad, I thought he was playing pretty good.

Maybe he resigns as a lower hit?

backhandsauce 11-17-2011 01:22 PM

Bring up Colt if anything. Pass on TC.

Obviously you don't deal futures for a quick fix but Edmonton could deal Gagner for a defensemen around the same age or a veteran with a couple years left on his contract.

Good point a Colt .45 is better than Chorney.

jumptheshark 11-17-2011 01:45 PM

for ****s sakes this injuries are getting annoying

three years in a row it is getting annoying

Beerfish 11-17-2011 01:48 PM

Start the Alex Plante era! :naughty:

Koto 11-17-2011 01:51 PM

i dont get why this is a such a big deal, hes a bottom pairing defencemen

we have

smid-gilbert
whitney(soon)-potter

then we have peckham, petry, sutton, teubert, chorney who can play bottom pairing

we certainly arent in need of a bottom pairing defencemen, and if you think we need a top 4 dman...then an injury to barker has no effect on that need because he was never one anyway

Replacement 11-17-2011 01:52 PM

Really tough injury. Really hard time for it to occur in Barker's career.

His game was coming around before. He was making some good reads with the puck, good transition, jumping up in the offense, and showcasing some offensive gifts. The goal he scored on the roadtrip for instance being a beauty.

Hope this doesn't demoralize Cam.

Obviously with Gagner playing poorly you will not get much for him, if the Oilers could get a good D for Gagner go for it.

Does Chorney need to go through re-entry waivers if the recall is on an emergency basis? I assumed that recalls that were made due to replacing injured players didn't require recall waivers.

SometimesY 11-17-2011 01:55 PM

Did this happen right at the end of the last game he played?

It's too bad that now he doesn't have a chance to prove himself after settling in..

I think the emergency basis covers only a certain amount of time and I think 3 months is way beyond that.

Agree...liked what I saw in his first.

Hemsky4PM 11-17-2011 02:06 PM

Considering St. Louis was the only team to claim Chorney when he went on waivers (and the Oilers were the only team to put in a claim when he went back on), even if it's a re-entry situation I assume TC would clear. Every team has 2 TCs in their system.

The Oilers need to find out if he's able to be a compotent no.7 guy anyways. What was the point of brining him back if they don't want to actually make use of the depth it allows?

Teubert would be an OK option, but I don't like the idea of that many immobile stay-at-home types.

No I was strictly talking about the beer in that post.

Groucho 11-17-2011 02:12 PM

Brutal timing for Barker.
Everything replacement said in his post.
This is pretty much the writing on the wall for him I think, being out for 3 months is going to make him verrrrry hard to re sign or attract a new suitor next year.

Tough break.

Why would it make it harder for him to re-sign?

It really sucks for him though... I feel so bad for the dude.

Agreed, I guarantee he will get a contract next off-season it jsut won't be anywhere near the 3+ million the Oilers gave him. Definitely won't get more than 2 million next summer.
