My top 18 for the 2012 QMJHL draft (November)

My top 18 for the QMJHL as of this month.

1. Daniel Audette—F—Phenix 5’07/158 22 14 21 35
2. Matthew Highmore—F—Dartmouth 5’11/160 07 02 04 06

13. Mason MacDonald—G—Halifax Titans 6’00/145 06 00 2.07 .910
14. Kevin Bouchard—G—Jonquire 6’02/204 02 05 3.00 .870
15. Lucas Batt—F—ND Argos 5’11/167 17 09 08 17
16. Mathieu Ayotte—Antoine-Girouard 5’08/140 24 12 12 24
17. Julien Bahl—D—Anotine Girouard 5’09/156 22 02 11 13
18. Matthew Cusson—F—Lac St Louis 5’11/180 22 04 06 10

Cusson is in the first round because Lac St Louis does not play him much at all but rather there top two lines, he is an amazing talent with great hands and offensive punch.

Bouchard is falling a bit, he is not performing like once thought, he is still good but as of right now he is not that top tier goalie for his team.

Audette and Highmore well Audette is more talented but he is 5'07, Highmore is no slouch either though he is super fast skater, amazing offensive player who makes things happend all the time and he is 5'11...Audette by talent could go 1st overall, but if you combine in height Highmore is not far off of Audette either though in talent, it should be a fight.

Pick Six 11-21-2011 12:07 PM

How would you compare the top end of last years draft (excluding MacKinnon). Comparing them to Duclair, Gregorie, De Luca, Drouin etc.

EDIT: It's a little off topic, but I'm wondering what you think of Zachary Fucale, scoutman? I've seen him a bunch in Halifax and always come away impressed. Do you think he can be the best goalie from the Q next year?

scoutman1 11-21-2011 05:57 PM

I think highmore is better than Gregoire...I wouldn't have Deluca in the equation, he is good but not in a class with those top top guys.......

Jonathan Drouin > Daniel Audette (not far off, he is only better because of size IMO)

Anthony Duclaire > Matthew Highmore (Duclaire is amazing)

I would take Drouin and Duclair before Highmore and Audette

I would take both Audette and Highmore before Gregoire, Gregoire is pretty good player, he reminds me of a clone of Maxime Talbot but I think Highmore and Audette are a step ahead of him.

Drouin and Duclaire are pretty good players and this is taking nothing away from Audette and Highmore but Drouin and Duclair are pretty amazing prospects that do not come around everyday...but Audette is pretty close to Drouin.

Leveille and MacIntyre....

Macintyre is a very strong player, a very good skater, excellent puck handler and bringing the puck out of the zone, he is super smart, his hockey IQ is very high, he has slick puck handling skills, seems to always make the right play and he is able to pinch with the puck as well, im surprised he has no goals this year yet, but he is so smart and so strong this guy is going to be a gem.

Leville is a puck rushing dman, loves to add offense pinching into the zone, he is very strong as well, and will give a hit if he has to, he is good in his own zone but he likes the offensive game, he will create offense big time on the ice and also be good in own zone.

I think the defense top guys are way better than the 2011 QMJHL draft...I would take these two guys ahead of Murphy or Guenette any day and I really like Murphy so that tells you how talented these two guys are.

Zach Fucale is amazing he is so calm, so poised for a goalie his age...sometimes he is too laid back but im sure that will change...he has excellent positioning and is very skilled reading the play, he is not a show time goalie but he makes saves look easy......he should be a top prospect I think for the 2013 NHL draft....but I will say I would still like to see him as a back up this year and Halifax get an experienced goalie for Fucale to learn from for the year.

Good job, solid list. No Alexis Pepin?

ya i never put him 1st, he is one a lot of teams list as a guy who could sneak in and actually is a B prospect on my teams list for 2nd round....he has great size, big time shot, good skater, but for a guy his size he is very soft, needs to use his size, something he doesn't do, he is being told but is not playing tough yet...if he doesn't play strong soon he will fall to 2nd round, if he starts to use his size he will be a 1st round pick possibly....he is good but not great either right now.

Surprised to see Bouchard is doing as bad as he is & he's falling in the ranks already. Are the Jonquiere Elites completely depending on him to win them games or has he just been awful?

well he is not on the same level as Francois Tremblay and Alexander Belanger etc etc where at this point...his team is not the best but the talent is there for him. A lot can change very fast for him.

good list as always ... I have a throwback question for you, not related to this thread but anyways, I'd appreciate if you can answer

why was Huberdeau the last pick of the 1st round in 2009? Were there doubts he might go to the US or has he surprised people since he's been drafted?

FLYguy3911 11-21-2011 07:36 PM

Sorry for another OT question, but why did Duclair fall to the 3rd round last year?

he threatened to go to the US, otherwise he was top 5 for sure

he told every team he was going US route...he was a top talent for the draft...but again US route and Saint John had a deal with him.

Agree with most of it. Just one question. Why has that kid Deschamps fallen so much? Wasn't he at one point ahead of everyone? I am sure he deserves to be there, especially over Bahl. What do you think?

some players top out early...he is one, not much better from last year, his offensive upside is super low, he is ok in his own end but A LOT of players have passed or caught up to him...Bahl is an offesnive dman, he has that rare ability to control the play from the point and put up points from the back end, he is very high on many teams list.

MTLScout 11-21-2011 08:47 PM

And while your online, what about Simard on CCL, wasn't he high on people's list?

he was high on my list too...and he is the leading scorer on his team and could very well go 1st round...myself I like him in the 2nd round...he is good but not great, needs to add A LOT of strength to keep playing his style of game.

Scoutman1

I have had the pleasure of watching MacIntyre play this year and last year, and you are 100% correct this guy is going to be a Gem.

He is playing in a league that is the best Midget League in the country against players 2 years older then him this year and he stands out. He is a physical force and very smart. His points will come, he is a pass first type player. He is also a quality individual who will be a captain at one point in the Q.

Pick Six 11-22-2011 09:42 AM

Thanks a ton for the write up scoutman, as always it's much appreciated. Good to hear I'm not the only one that's a fan of Fucale as well.

Hockey Buff 11-22-2011 10:15 AM

Great list. I was wondering if there are any potential first rounder's in Midget Espoir? Last year 2 players were selected in the first round.

there could be...espoir tourmanet is this week, I will get to see if there is one or two there...but i heard so far there isn't by my other scouts....but usually most of the time the guys from Espoir do not pop up untill later in the season.

markrander87 11-22-2011 12:54 PM

Great list. Is that defenseman from Frederciton Luc De... can't remember his last name not eligible until 2013??

MTLScout 11-22-2011 01:59 PM

Great list MR. Scoutman. This might sound really dumb, but just wondering, is this based on your scouting team or is this more of a concensus of all the the scouts, CSR and individual teams? The reason why I'm asking is because there is always that pick makes you think ,wow, where did he come from.

is it rule for frenchmen to be so small?

These kids are also just 15 years old; most of them will be a few inches taller when they're NHL prospects.
