Jim Johnson: New Assistant Coach, Woods out

TSNBobMcKenzie: I know some in WSH media are reporting Calle Johansson as new asst coach. I am hearing it is Jim Johnson, not Calle. Stay tuned.

Former Capital, former coach with Tampa Bay/Norfolk. Strong developmental background.

EDIT:

It's Official:

@Adam_KOL

"RT @kcarrera: Via text, General Manager George McPhee says Jim Johnson will be joining Dale Hunter's coaching staff not Calle Johansson."

Drake1588 11-29-2011 10:06 PM

EDIT: JJ, not CJ

pgreene 11-29-2011 10:10 PM

wonder in what capacity? kypreos says bringing someone on to help -- sounds like "consultant". that goof from csn says "assistant coach." nothing from the beat folks.

i like callejo. he was always one of my favorites. alzner reminds me of him. simple, mobile, smart, not overly physical. calle i guess had a little more offense. but he should help out the boys positionally, for sure. assuming, of course, he can coach.

BobMac says he's hearing Jim Johnson not CalleJo. Stay tuned sports fans...

I saw from another tweet that it's to help with the Young Defense ala Orlov Carlson and Alzner?

Can't find it now.

@TSNBobMcKenzie just tweeted:

Hmm, Interesting.

if i had to place money on gormley or bobby mc, i know where my money is. of course, bob's been wrong before. in any event, i think it's positive they're letting dale bring in his own people.

Drake1588 11-29-2011 10:16 PM

McKenzie's word is usually gospel, so I'll buy that.

SergeyKocharov: The Washington Capitals have named Jim Johnson the team’s assistant coach, replacing Bob Woods.

Guess that GAA didn't help.

CrashTheNet9 11-29-2011 10:32 PM

I wonder if woods felt some loyalty to bb or "the system" that he didn't feel he could effectively coach. Seems weird not to have happened at same time. Maybe Johnson has to tie loose ends.

Roughing 11-29-2011 10:47 PM

So, umm, is this a good thing? I'm fine with Woods being out but...

Maybe he and Bruce are lining up their own gig elsewhere.
