Lecavalier or Gagne???????
Who would u rather have?

Flyman 09-17-2004 04:47 PM

I wonder why such a poll?? :dunno:
You cannot compare them. They're are two different players, at two different positions!

NYRangers 09-17-2004 04:50 PM

Vinny, no contest.

Blindside9711 09-17-2004 05:28 PM

Apples and oranges, but nonetheless...
I'm a huge Gags fan, but Vinny showed in the playoffs and in the World Cup of Hockey that he can be dominant and be a difference-maker in a game.

FearTheFlyers 09-17-2004 06:10 PM

Vinny is special.

First of all, I voted for Lecavalier.

Gagne is a good hockey player as well BUT, he's too much of an injury-prone compared to Vincent. <-- my name!! :D

In all his seasons (6) played, he's missed altogether 23 games. How many has Gagne missed? Around 50 something according to my calcultions.

Simon Gagne:
1999-2000 Flyers 80
2000-2001 Flyers 69
2001-2002 Flyers 79
2002-2003 Flyers 46
2003-2004 Flyers 80

Vincent Lecavalier:
1998-1999 Lightning 82
1999-2000 Lightning 80
2000-2001 Lightning 68
2001-2002 Lightning 76
2002-2003 Lightning 80
2003-2004 Lightning 81

Come on, this poll isn't nessessary.

No reason to make a poll that won't even be close.

blah 09-17-2004 07:46 PM

The Bolts players are so overrated. That being said for the Flyers I'd rather have Gagne. If I was building a team and had no other players you definately take the 6'4 top6 center.

adurn 09-17-2004 08:02 PM

Gagne is not injury prone. The reason he missed a big chunk of the 2002-2003 season was because no doctor could properly diagnose the problem with his groin.

Turns out it wasn't his groin, it was a tear in his abominal wall, which created the groin pulls. He had surgery to repair it over the summer and only missed 2 games the past season. I wouldn't consider that injury prone.

All right, there is probably a slight bit of homerism involved in my pick for Gagne, but please hear me out on my rationale.

Gagne has shown that he can put up big numbers when paired with talent and when given scoring line and PP minutes. However, the level of talent that Gagne is playing with is lower than the talent on TB. Vinny has St. Louis, Richards, Modin, and co. Playing with Primeau and Kapanen for 1/2 the year doesn't quite stack up to that. When playing with Zhamnov for the last part of the year, Gagne showed what he could be when given top line minutes. Gagne is also relied upon by Hitchcock to play defense and while Torts likes his guys to play a lot of D, I think Gagne is just a much better defensive forward than Lecavalier. Defense wins in today's NHL.

Vinny might be the franchise player, but I just like Gagne a little better. He's never mouthed off at his coach even when he's forced to play a defensive game and not score as much and he's had to put up with a lot of criticism. I think he could become at least a 35 goal scorer if he plays with talent on the top line.

Hello, well they're both very different, and they're on the right team,i don't know much about Gagne,so i can really say much,as far as Vinny goes he has matured so much, playing in the finals and in the WCH looks like it really helped him be a better player,so i take him any day!!! ;)

Russian_fanatic 09-17-2004 08:57 PM

Gagne is bettter overall player, can be given huge minutes, is a great offensive threat when given the chance.

Lecavalier though is a franchise forward. Pick one you can't go wrong.

I will take both and a dog for in net and still beat the Rangers 6 games out of 10. :lol

Nikkowar 09-17-2004 10:53 PM

Can anyone guess what 2005 is?

30 years since you won the cup.

Missionhockey 09-18-2004 12:05 AM

Lecavalier is much much much more talented. IMO 2nd most talented forward in the Eastern Conference (Kovalchuk is first). No offense to Gagne, but Vinny by a wide margin.

meadvilledog 09-18-2004 01:17 AM

As a die hard flyer fan my gut reaction is gagne, but I think u need to wait a few years to properly answer this question. First Gagne has been coached and trained totally differently than Lecavlier. He has had is defensive game developed before is offensive game. This comparisson is like a Jagr Modano comparisson. Ask that question early in their careers and I'm sure most would say Jagr (points and a cup), But look at that comparisson just a few years ago and Modano has proven to be a great leader, point getter, and cup winner as well. I' sure in vinny's and simon case the longrun will prove both to be great selections.

Yes, but it's still a 100% correct statement.

When we hit the magical 54 then I'll be worried.

yeah, I am, because in case you remembered, Vinny absolutely sucked until two seasons ago when those guys came into the TB system.
