This. I stopped watching F1 for a very long time after the events of that weekend. Then again, F1 coverage here in Canada sucked balls. Actually, it still sucks.

Having said that, it is rather insulting to read people compare Lewis Hamilton to Senna presently.

Lastly, Raikonnen's return is good for the sport, both in terms of his personality and the fact that there will be six drivers with WDC's under the belt on the grid. Just hoping that Renault can give him a car that is competitive.

The death of Senna and previously Ratzenberger were obviously devavastating for the fans and sport but IMO Schumacher is the Gretzky of F1 not Ayrton Senna.

Shumi may have collected more championships, but the things that Senna did with those old turbocharged beasts is unmatched. The rivalry between him and Prost only added to the fantastic display of skill that Senna possessed. I'd take Senna over any driver, any day. 18 years after his death and watching what he could do in the wet with a 1200hp Lotus with no ABS/TC or downforce is simply the most fun you can have watching motorsports.

A solid name change if I do say so myself

When you guys say Raikkonen adds more personality lol....the guy has such a lack of personality that it's hilarious, he sounds like a robot so is this irony?

I know it's an old post, but trololol...

back in the Prost, Senna, Manssell, Piquet, Lauda, Villeneuve (Gilles) era, the pilots used to drive those cars. starting with the 90's it's the other way around...

When people say Raikkonen has personality, they are meaning in terms of seeing the real person behind the microphone. During interviews, a lot of drivers are very "corporate" so to speak and often fall back towards cliché statements (i.e. "I would like to thank the team, the mechanics and engineers, the guys and girls who are working at Woking/Milton Keynes/Maranello/etc, and also the sponsors for setting up a car that was a joy to drive, blah blah blah). As a result, the general public don't get to see a whole lot of the driver as a person, only glimpses here and there.

In Raikonnen's case, yes, he is robotic and quirky, but it is a lot closer to the real person that he is than other drivers. Also, don't forget he is Finnish (see: Mika Hakkinen interviews). :sarcasm:

You seem to catch my drift. I Know Kimi in person and that's why I made this thread.

Finnpin 12-12-2011 09:15 AM

IMO Senna is the greatest ever.

Still in 1994 the cars were not as safe as they should have.

And every driver who had balls to drive F1 in the 50s, 60s and 70s are totally badass men. F1 was literally russian roulette back then.

And for the Kimi quotes it was already posted in the F1 thread. I like Kimi. Actually because of him I will come back watching F1 again.

This is for sure.

I tried for like 30 minutes to reply to that post after he made it, but was unable to do so in a dignified way.

Lorenzo Bandini! Have you ever heard a faster sounding F1 name? One of many F1 casualties. Most of you have no idea what it takes to drive those cars. I hear alot of people saying the car drives the pilot but that is just people who have no idea of motorsports. Go to your local carting track and take the best car they have and have the track owner take the worst. You'll lose 100/100. Why? Because the other guy knows how to drive!

F1 drivers have major talent ofcourse but you can't deny the fact that the electronics in the cars these days help a lot to get away from mistakes the driver might do.. back in the day it was just the driver who controlled the grip...and no help from some computers. But a monkey can't drive a F1 car now...of course you need talent.

I remember when I drove outside carting cars (top speed in straight over 100km/h) years ago only 2x20 minutes stints... I was sweating after it so much ..It felt like a had just been running...plus next day my whole body felt like I was ran over by a truck... it was so physical experience so I can only imagine how in good condition you have to be in driving real motor sport cars and for about 2 hours... also in that department I have huge respect to all motorsport drivers

The Saw Is the Law 01-28-2012 03:34 AM

Kimi :yo:

raikk 02-04-2012 11:40 PM

The guy is my favorite athlete and an idol of mine, I'm pretty stoked he's coming back !:yo:

Apaharn 02-05-2012 12:43 AM

Now we need to see Kimi make a Vettel impression: :sarcasm:

Finnpin 02-05-2012 09:41 AM

Vettel is a great guy  and actually they are buddies with Kimi...they are almost neighboors in Switzerland.

It's not a secret that Finnish motorsport drivers usually like to party...

A single event, Kimi taking part in a boat race while wearing a gorilla suit has more personality than the rest of the grid put together.

Playing hockey with Esa, what more needs to be said.

Eating the ice crean sandwich when all the other drivers were sitting in their cars during the monsoon rains was epic. The other drivers needed permission to leave their posts which they were too scared to ask for.

I'm been a fan of Raikkonen since Mika retired, I'm glad he's back.

The guy just doesn't like media but off the show he is normal guy who actually talks a lot and jokes around...you just don't see that through the F1 cameras.

Kimi teaser from Top Gear...Kimi beeing Kimi and joking around with Jeremy Clarkson:

Can't wait until tomorrow to see the episode.

And hopefully Vettel won't run away with the title this year. I mean, I like the guy, but it gets a bit tedious when his worst non-podium results of the year are a mysterious tire deflation at Abu Dhabi and a fourth at the Nurburgring.

HawksFan74 03-10-2012 12:28 PM

Great doc of Senna on Netflix. Could not really believe some of the garbage going on while he was racing.

MADGREEK* 03-11-2012 10:15 AM

Cannot wait for Top Gear. Been a great season and looks like a sick final ep to the series.

raikk 03-11-2012 11:49 PM

Here's the full version of Kimi at To Gear
