Meszaros misses practice (update: he is practicing Tuesday)

Dropping like flies/Flyers....gonna be fun against Pitt if Meszaros is not up to snuff...:help:

The Flyers seemingly dodged a bullet with defenseman Andrej Meszaros.

Or did they?

According to general manager Paul Holmgren, Meszaros will play on Wednesday in Buffalo. But Meszaros was not on the ice for practice on Monday.

Officially, the Flyers are calling it a “maintenance day” for Meszaros.

Yes, Brayden Schenn and Danny Briere also missed practice, but Meszaros’ absence raises a few eyebrows.

In text messages exchanged with the Daily News yesterday, Holmgren would not confirm whether or not Meszaros is actually injured, though that certainly appears to be the case.

On Saturday night in Phoenix, Meszaros was crunched into the boards on a hit by Raffi Torres with just 19 seconds to go in the Flyers’ 4-2 win over the Coyotes. He hobbled off the ice, heading directly to the locker room, while clutching his shoulder.

Holmgren would only say on Sunday that Meszaros is “doing good.”

Viruses are known to break bones; so be careful Mez.

RoDu 12-05-2011 03:48 PM

I wonder if shoulders can catch knee viruses

Don't be silly... The only transmittable viruses are elbow to shoulder, knee to ankle and the obvious wrist to groin.

Beef Invictus 12-05-2011 03:59 PM

Mez's shoulder and Pronger's knee clearly aren't on Dry Island.

rafman522 12-05-2011 04:08 PM

Danny Briere and Schenn also took maintenance days.

mirimon 12-05-2011 04:17 PM

Meh. Is anyone really surprised to hear Mezsaros took a day or two off from on-ice practice? I mean, he didn't look too good when he got off the ice after that hit.

I'm more concerned about Brière not being there. Any word on what caused that?

DrinkFightFlyers 12-05-2011 04:17 PM

Pronger is on a maintenance month, right? Maybe Mez is joining him.

Briere usually has a few maintenance days a year, hopefully it's just routine.

What, did Hartnell bite them all?

Neither of them, however, were "injured" during the last game. If it's his shoulder it could be a season long injury or he could have a surgery-causing virus - both being worse case scenarios. It could also be a bruise or left as a precaution since the game was over and just need some time off since we only have 4 health non-rookie d.

Of course you can take Homer saying that he's doing good anyway you want. I've been burned before.

Don't the Flyers know that osteoporosis is not a virus.... ;)

OriginJM 12-05-2011 10:06 PM

Mesz: "Hey Paul, I think I really ****ed up my shoulder. I must of torn something because I can barely move it... I don't think I'm going to be good to go for a while."

Paul: "Hm, sounds like you got a sniffle, boy."

Mesz: "What? No it's my sho--"

Paul: "Virus it is."

Ironmanrulez 12-06-2011 12:16 AM

virus is the new term!

who needs "upper body injury" or "lower body injury" :yo:

MiamiScreamingEagles 12-06-2011 10:12 AM

Meszaros and Briere are practicing today (Tuesday); however, Schenn is not.

The team travels to Buffalo later today.

It will eventually evolve to "upper body virus" and "lower body virus"

turkinaa 12-06-2011 01:18 PM

JVR's upper body virus seems to be better and he might be playing tomorrow night.

That's some good news.

BleedOrange 12-06-2011 01:33 PM

Schenn better have a day off if hes hurt agian im going to scream...

Prongo 12-06-2011 02:35 PM

I saw earlier that schenn did get on the ice today but it was later on during the practice. Also Bill Meltzer said that JVR has a slight abdominal tear. These things can linger so they better have him 100% before he returns
