Good thing they kept Lee around.

fix't.

Gives a chance to see where Carkner is at as well as continue to give Rundblad time on the ice. It is only a couple weeks.

Any chance Patty Wiercioch gets called up?

None. We're already carrying an overabundance of defencemen, and even if we needed a call-up I'd think Borowiecki and Gryba are higher up on the list.

Last year I would have agreed with you, but not this year. He has been a key cog top 4 d-man, tough when you lose those.

Kuba out a month, but we'll still be sitting one of Carkner/Lee/Rundblad every night.

Depth is nice sometimes.

Depth is key. This is why you don't trade every player that doesn't play every night. This happens to every team, every single season, but people still want to trade this guy, trade that guy so on.

Depth isn't nice, it's key.

I agree with the first part but disagree with the second part. Wiercioch was ahead of borowiecki and gryba last year and has only gotten a lot better.

Borowiecki is 100% the guy getting the call if someone comes up from Bingo. Not sure about Gryba though as Borowiecki jumped him as well especially being a LH D man.

Kuba can't catch a break it would seem.

I hope this doesn't mean Carkner will be playing, he blows.

Billy Madison* 12-07-2011 10:38 AM

I like Wiercoich but that guy is still a big time project. He has at least a year or two in the AHL to go before he is really NHL ready. Has to fill in as well. I think he's going to be a good player and with the Sens lack of a puck mover and offensive D man on the left side he has a shot to be a good player in Ottawa for a long time, but he's not close at this point.

Borowiecki plays a very hard, very simple, very intense game and that's going to allow him to be a guy that is dependable right out of the gate with mistakes being limited. He knows his role, he will play it well.

L'Aveuglette 12-07-2011 10:39 AM

I think a lot of it also has to do with who get's injured...If karlsson or gonchar get injured, you might want to call up patrick and not mark...

It also depends on a lot of things...who do they view has more upside? If were out of the playoffs later on, and they view wiercioch as having more upside, combined with his improved play from last year, combined with the fact he didn't look out of place in his stint last year, he might just get the call.

However,if cowen or phillips or carkner gets injured,it would make more sense to call up borowiecki as he is older and less mistake prone.

The Expert 12-07-2011 10:58 AM

Boro is definitely the highest on the Bingo depth chart.

The Waffler 12-07-2011 11:33 AM

That sucks.

Agreed. Having 8 NHL calibre D men is very useful for covering injured players.

I agree that Borocop is probably the next call up. I really doubt Gryba would be next, he's been clearly jumped by Boro IMO.

This is true, but the way Cowen has played with Karlsson it would be very difficult to break up that pairing now. I think Rundblad and Kuba might play well together once Kuba is ready again.

Also I think Kuba going on IR allows Murray a little more time to decide what he is going to do with the roster, otherwise with Regin and Carkner's imminent return the Sens would have to demote a player.

Minister of Offence 12-07-2011 11:46 AM

Boro's jumped ahead of PW on the priority list IMO.

Cujomi 12-07-2011 11:48 AM

Interesting that instead of going with call ups I've noticed that they are playing Rundblad on Lee's left side. Who would have thought that Rundblad could play the left? :sarcasm:

That made me laugh.

As long as Kuba is back before the trade deadline it will be okay.
