[ANA/NJD] Foster and Pielmeier for Pelley, Fraser and a 2012 7th

Per Stephens,

Quote:

Ducks send D Kurtis Foster and G Timo Pielmeier to New Jersey for C Rod Pelley, D Mark Fraser and a seventh in 2012

Force951 12-12-2011 04:57 PM

Its Pelley not Pellet. Not sure what to make with this move since both were roster players on NJ. But if we are getting them for Timo and Foster they couldn't have been worth much.

Force951 12-12-2011 04:58 PM

Btw both are making 550k this year, Pelley is a UFA at the end of the year while Fraser is a RFA.

Jesus Teemu 12-12-2011 05:02 PM

Doesn't mean much, although good thing Foster's out of here.

davidy2d 12-12-2011 05:03 PM

Foster was only beneficial because we got to dump Sutton, I heard we moved a finnish goalie at first and I was mad but then I saw it was Timo. Returns irrelevant imo because we gave up, imo, nothing.

ShadowDuck 12-12-2011 05:04 PM

Any insight about these guys? Definitely a good deal for the Ducks getting rid of two unwanteds

DuckTech 12-12-2011 05:05 PM

I at one point had high hopes for Timo, those days are long gone, I think we were swapping crap parts, Good on Bob for dumping Foster's contract while getting in theory a 7th round pick and some spare bits!

Finally asset management where we aren't on the losing end haha.

Amen!

Both of them will report to Anaheim, according to Stephens. Fraser could add a little grit to the blueline.

Elvs 12-12-2011 05:15 PM

Great deal. Not that Fraser and Pelley are good players, but both are cheap and provides grit. Meanwhile the Ducks didn't have to give up anything for them and recieves a pick.

DuckTech 12-12-2011 05:16 PM

To give everyone a perspective of how good a player these guys are, I believe that former Duck - Ryan Carter is New Jersey's normal 3rd line center and is considered a better player - by far, then Rod Pelley. I have no comparison for Fraser, but it can't be that good...That all said, it doesn't matter, the only way Pelley sticks is if he is a face-off specialist or AMAZING on D.

bumperkisser 12-12-2011 05:21 PM

we win just because we got a 7th round pick lol:D

Paul4587 12-12-2011 05:21 PM

Fraser should provide some grit on the blueline in Syracuse (once our blueline is healthy) and Pelley will either be our 13th/14th forward or will play in Syracuse. At least we got a 7th round pick out of dumping Foster and we've made our farm team better defensively.

Fraser is a decent #7 who is tough as nails and will defend his teammates well. Solid fighter. Poor skater, no offensive skills, and defense is okay.

Pelley is a decent 4th liner who is a solid skater and hits well. Will drop the gloves every now and then and is not bad defensively and on the PK.

Both guys are far from flashy but not pathetic by any means.

Can we expect anything solid from Foster? I know that he is a PP guy and is big. Is he physical?

goalvalchuk17 12-12-2011 05:22 PM

devils fan curious why you guys wanted foster out so bad?

He has a cannon of a shot and sucks at everything else. He had the one year where he thrived on Tampas top PP unit but he couldn't even crack our top unit when Visnovsky was hurt, his puckhandling and passing ability weren't good enough.

Classic Devil 12-12-2011 05:24 PM

This is two teams trading spare parts to new places. Nothing really special.

From NJ's perspective it's appealing because Foster's big year with Tampa was with Adam Oates as the PP coach, so if there's any place he might find his game again it's in Newark.

With all due respect, he's terrible. Maybe the Devils can work something out, but he's not at all physical, slow as hell, always out of position, and makes bad reads pretty regularly. Apparently, he has a good shot, but he never used it.

Paul4587 12-12-2011 05:29 PM

I just saw that Fraser is on a one way deal. I guess that means Guenin will be going to Syracuse when everybody is healthy, not Fraser. Not that it really matters who sits in the pressbox but I feel bad for Guenin who probably deserves to stay and earn an NHL salary.

goalvalchuk17 12-12-2011 05:29 PM

wow, hoping the devils can work something out with him

duckaroosky 12-12-2011 05:30 PM

We already have a Pelly (Smith-Pelly)

Fraser has a really annoying habit of opting for arbitration.

DaDucks 12-12-2011 05:43 PM

more toughness is good for sure...dont like Guenin going down though

Gliff 12-12-2011 05:44 PM
