No trades yet. We still need help.

Too much do not want on this team:cry:

Mystlyfe 12-15-2011 04:33 PM

I hold the hypothesis that the same schism that developed in the Flyers locker room after Pronger was acquired would have developed here. But zero chance that McPhee/Leonsis side with the Pronger half in Washington. We wouldn't have traded away Ovechkin/Green/Semin the way they traded Richards and Carter. It's Pronger who would not be wearing a Capitals jersey anymore.

n3ss 12-15-2011 05:37 PM

Semin++ (one of our goalie prospects, maybe?) to Devils
Parise to Capitals

txpd 12-15-2011 05:56 PM

right. not a chance

I can hope.

Not that it necessarily matters or that anything at all will happen but the holiday roster freeze is from the 19th to the 27th.

Carlzner 12-15-2011 07:06 PM

Nobody responded to this, and it was one of the last posts at the bottom on one of the pages.... just gonna repost it.

I think the first thing we try to do is something around

:flames
Bourque

:caps
Schultz
Pick/Prospect

Bourque could light a spark under Semin to get him going (Mojo clearly isn't the problem, as a 2nd liner at least) We would have a decent 2nd liner to play with Semin and Mojo, and maybe that could fix it.

I don't know if i want to do Iginla for Semin... assuming Iginla plays on the 1st line, does that really improve our 2nd line? Our 2nd line is definitely our biggest problem right now imo, and this would just make it Brouwer - Mojo - Eakin(?) Not a big step up.

Since their both upcoming UFA's maybe something around:

:nashville
Suter
F

:caps
Semin
Schultz/Other D
Pick/Prospect

ChibiPooky 12-15-2011 07:10 PM

I'd love to be able to trade Schultz in both deals... just let them fight for him.

Guess it'd be Schultz and Hamrlik going? Ionno... after getting Bourque, I might turn around and try to flip a pick for a D man. Not like it's that hard to replace a depth guy. Go after a good D-man in the offseason.

G3 LesPaul 12-15-2011 10:05 PM

In other news, Flyers need a D-man to replace pronger

Sarge anyone?:naughty:

Hes obviously done here

Pronger plays the right side, where Schultz is known to be iffy. Though with Pronger, Gustafsson, and Lilja down they're awfully thin and might take whatever they can afford.

ChibiPooky 12-15-2011 10:50 PM

Hamrlik is RD... we can send him, MP, our 1st for JVR :naughty:

Mystlyfe 12-15-2011 10:53 PM

Orlov+ for JVR?

ChibiPooky 12-15-2011 11:06 PM

No way. Orlov is a keeper.

sunnydaycrash 12-16-2011 12:34 AM

Semin is not helping his value in anyway.... He's more of a salary dump at this point unless the Wings want him..... The only way he doesn't run to the KHL in the summer is if the Wings,Caps or possibly the Habs want him.
Think Russian teammates !!!!!

And JVR isn't?

bonzaibondra12 12-16-2011 04:03 AM

Dear Neuvy,

Thank you.

Signed,
Me

PS. Keep it up.

that said. Semin can go with Schultz. If Neuvy grabs the 1, I say you look to see if Vokoun has value.

txpd 12-16-2011 06:05 AM

why does nashville want to trade suter for semin? makes no sense on many levels

What is wrong with having an All Star backup with a 1.5mil contract?

txpd 12-16-2011 07:01 AM

the caps have three goalies capable of nhl play. thats the minimum. if neuvirth gets keeps it together, the caps will still need vokoun

I don't see us trading Alzner, Carlson, Green, or Orlov without another defender coming back.

Apparently you only read the press clippings, Holtby has struggled and very inconsistent in Hershey. His cockiness and edge have been battered a bit, this is by being eye witness, not reading the Lebanon newspaper or AHL website.

txpd 12-16-2011 07:47 AM

i am not sweating holtby's issues. same could have been said of neuvirth approaching last night's game. last in the league in sv% and all.

edit: frankly, his cockiness and edge needed to and was definately going to be challenged and that its happening at hershey is fine by me. that part of his game that so many love is very hard to make work and a main reason why its so rare. playing the puck aggressively and using his stick against opposing players is far down the list of goalie priorities and need to be used judiciously.

last season i can recall that he holtby making a fine aggressive play with the puck that created a scoring chance. the next time he touched the puck he gave it away and he was still standing behind the goal line when the puck went into his net.

my guess is that dale hunter will want him to stop the puck first. he likes an edge but is also conservative about it. i bet he wants his goalies to be known for stopping the puck more than passing it or slashing opposing crease cruisers

Possible but you have to remember that there was no split of the locker room in St Louis, Edmonton, and Anaheim due to Pronger. I seriously doubt he would have had a problem with Ovechkin but thats just me.

But thats besides the point anyhow...we have a coach who has a system to play one way while our collection of players was accumulated to play a different way. If they can get acclimated then maybe theres some hope. If not I still stand by my take that I want to see ZERO moves (unless something solid comes along which I doubt based on how our tradable pieces are playing) until the offseason.

Besides maybe the D will improve like the PP when Green gets back. I would at least hold off until seeing what the team looks like after he gets back.
