This would be a game changer folks.

Northland Wild Man 12-16-2011 08:37 AM

I'm not that concerned about it.

squidz* 12-16-2011 08:38 AM

Wow. Looks like BU's season is going down in a hurry. I guess this guarantees he'll be in Houston next season then?

this providence 12-16-2011 08:40 AM

Wonder why the Wild just wouldn't get him signed to an ELC and put him in Houston...

He can go to Houston now.

Avder 12-16-2011 08:44 AM

So how soon do we see him in Houston challenging for a Wild roster spot?

That's a really good point. Especially with the extreme shortage of players down there due to call ups. Maybe they're worried about ice time once forwards start getting healthy again? There's a lot of centers on Houston's roster at full stregth. Also, maybe he didn't really consult with the team about it?

How does the CHL transfer agreement affect that if he has fully signed with Saint John?

All it means is that he's ineligible for college hockey. The CHL-AHL agreement only matters if a player gets drafted from a CHL team.

It'd be cool to have both Phillips and Coyle in the same line for the Seadogs, so they could form some chemistry before NHL.

Ah. So we might expect to see him signed in the next few days? I know Russo alluded to a date players need a contract by in order to be eligible for playoffs. That's not to say I expect to see him with the big team in the playoffs, but we have the contract room, and have used literally all of our depth so it might be in our best interest to at least have him eligible.

Since they both play center (and I don't know that SNB would move Phillips to wing at this point) I don't think we'll see them on the ice at the same time.

I know that it won't most likely happen, but a man can dream, eh? I'd hope they would share some PP-time at least.

Talk about a stacked offense for the Seadogs by the way, Huberdeau, Phillips, Coyle, Jurco, Galiev etc. Going for repeat?

Yeah that would be the trade deadline.

If there really is no transfer agreement if the player is not drafted by a CHL team (do we know for certain Coyle was not?), I don't think Coyle is long for Saint John.

Interesting, in the last part of the article it talks about how there are reports of BU players being unhappy with the way Parker handled the dismissal of Trivino with the media.

Either way, it would be pretty sweet if Coyle got signed to an ELC and put on the Aeros roster at some point this season.

Quick searches of the googles are returning nothing in regards to him being drafted into the CHL. He'd have to be part of the Q rather than an import wouldn't he?

this providence 12-16-2011 09:09 AM

I'll go ahead and say he'll be in Houston after the WJC...

I think TP is talking about how Coyle can play in Houston. Saint John does own his CHL rights.

Engebretson 12-16-2011 09:41 AM

So... is this just pure speculation until we hear from Russo or the Wild or is collegehockeynews.com a solid source?

It's one of the legit college hockey sites and definitely more solid than the original Twitter source (although I know Chuck and he writes for the same network that I do...CHN is just that much bigger)

squidz* 12-16-2011 09:49 AM

I've tried to find the originally referenced USHR report that all the other sites source, but have been unable to find anything.

this providence 12-16-2011 09:52 AM

Guh, CHL zealots are annoying. Pretty sure I just kicked the hornets nest with CHL-NCAA debate. Good thing I'll be gone for the majority of the rest of the day... :sarcasm:

Sounds good, I'll have to add CHN to my bookmark list.

I am a little anxious to hear from Russo or the Wild about their thoughts on the situation. I'm just hoping this doesn''t stunt his development in any way for whatever reason.
