Erik Karlsson's Next Contract

He is a RFA after this season and I was wondering what his next contract would look like? Opinions would be great! Thanks in advance! Flame Away! :yo:

If Ottawa is lucky, $4M per year and ending a year or two before he's UFA eligible. More likely $5M per year.

Phion Keneuf 12-20-2011 12:46 AM

$4.5 per for about 4-5 years imo.

LeTigre 12-20-2011 01:56 AM

5.65 for 6 years.

Nose of Sutter 12-20-2011 02:22 AM

Something like Hedman's maybe? 4.5ish?

Deen 12-20-2011 02:45 AM

4.7 over 6 Years Cap Hit.

Erza Scarlet 12-20-2011 03:06 AM

5.5 million.

sabresEH 12-20-2011 03:12 AM

Probably around what Tavares and Myers re-signed for.

burgess1978 12-20-2011 05:37 AM

As a Sens fan ... $2m per year for the next 287 years.

Sens Nation 12-20-2011 05:56 AM

Murray gives him whatever he wants. :yo:

GreatStateofHockey 12-20-2011 06:12 AM

Something reasonable like 4.5 over 5 , because Cowens going to get a matching contract.

alpine4life 12-20-2011 07:41 AM

4.750M-5.250M for 3/4yrs... if not more $$$

tony d 12-20-2011 07:51 AM

6 years at 5 million per season.

vippe 12-20-2011 07:53 AM

He wont be getting any less than Mike Green got in his contract year. Considering the cap is alot higher aswell I dont expect him getting any less than 6M$

SeanVT395 12-20-2011 07:55 AM

Nothing short of $5m per season, unless the term is ridiculously long.

Agreed... I could see it being 6 years @ 5.5M per. Would love to see anything less, but I expect he'll get 5-6M and then everyone will cry about how it's overpayment.

Here is a question to think about:

He may not have the same pedigree coming into the league as a top pick or whatever, but what stops him from asking for Drew Doughty money?

He has played one less season than Doughty, but has proven to be a prodigious offensive defenceman in that time.

Because defencemen making 7m per year better have a really well-rounded game, and EK's defence isn't there yet.

I expect somewhere around 5.5m will be the result.

Sureves 12-20-2011 08:50 AM

Should be around 5.5 for 6-7 years.

Really hoping EK is in it for the long haul and isn't strictly looking for a payday (ie. a short term deal then signing as a UFA later). We'll see I guess.

Cujomi 12-20-2011 08:55 AM

Thinking around 5 mil to end right before UFA years.

Smitty26 12-20-2011 09:17 AM

i would imagine the same as myers. maybe a little less. idk

NyQuil 12-20-2011 09:19 AM

We have to hope his +/- stays below the equator. ;)

Boxscore 12-20-2011 09:21 AM

Karlsson is going to make some major scratch. He's turning into one of the most dynamic players in the league and should be in the running for the Hart Trophy if you ask me.

SpezDispenser 12-20-2011 09:24 AM

Is this the perfect instance for Ottawa to do a long term deal? 12 years, 75.6 million, 6.3 million per year? We've all seen him, he's incredible and he's 21, there's a long way for him to improve yet. I would do it that if he'd agree to it, but he may want a much shorter deal to try to cash in again on contract 3. Whatever happens, we have the loot and he's worth whatever we pay.
