Prudential Center still moving up the charts

Newark’s Prudential Center for the first time has broken into the top 10 worldwide for gross concert and family show revenues, according to the trade publication Venues Today.

The figures, which are for mid-October 2010 to mid-October 2011, show the four-year-old Prudential Center with $30.3 million in revenues from 66 events, not including Devils, Nets or Seton Hall games. That was good for 10th overall and fifth in the continental U.S. The Newark site ranked 12th overall last year and 20th the year before that.

Madison Square Garden was fourth overall at $55.7 million, trailing the O2 Arena in London ($121.1 million), Allphones Arena in Sydney ($82.7 million), and Staples Center in Los Angeles ($60.0 million).

The Prudential Center benefited from a busy schedule in the first half of that fiscal year that included the NCAA East Regional men’s basketball semifinals and finals. Upcoming events include six performances of a Mickey Mouse-themed “Disney on Ice” show from Jan. 12-16 and seven Ringling Brothers Bros. and Barnum and & Bailey circus shows from March 1-4.

The Izod Center again was not among the 20 arenas ranked by the publication.

With all the doom and gloom with the media on the Rock lately that is a nice read.

Maybe they'll tear it down fall 2012? Who knows? :sarcasm:

Nice uplifting news for a Thursday morning. :handclap:

I am not surprised, The Rock rules brah.

Cowbell232 12-22-2011 09:32 AM

Isn't this the same number that were release by Billboard a little while back?

It's great news, that's for sure - and clear news that the Izod Center needs to go.

Saugus 12-22-2011 09:34 AM

Well, this is good news. I hope it makes it easier for Vanderbeek to find an investor.

Not to rain on the joy parade, but a lot of the increase is attributable to MSG being shut down for renovation and events moving to Pru.

And dont forget the New Jersey State Corruption Arena (aka IZOD) is remarkably still getting marquee events. Coldplay was just announced there a few weeks ago. :shakehead

I'm not going to do it, but we could probably figure out what dates that added. See what played at PruCenter during the months that MSG shut down.

For people who are more knowledgeable than I, we could then figure out which acts would have played PruCenter over MSG anyway, or have done both.

Last year it was 12th when MSG was open. Just a 2 spot jump. It was a factor but not as much as you would think. Those acts in the summer were also going to Nassau and Izod too.

Obviously we'll have to wait and see with this, but when Springsteen announces his tour schedule for the US for 2012, the Rock can't be ruled out as a possible venue

That would be pretty huge for the arena and although I don't see it happening because he'll probably be at Giants Stadium, an interesting thought if it does happen

True, but it's not looking good.

Springsteen also plans a new album next year, saying the music is almost done. He records for Sony Corp’s Columbia Records and his tours are organized by Beverly Hills, California-based Live Nation Entertainment
Live Nation hosts almost all it's concerts at New Jersey State Corruption Arena.

Because the PruCenter non-anchor events are run by AEG, the only major competition to the LiveNation/Ticketmaster monopoly.

I know nothing about Live Nation so I'll take your word for it, but that would suck

I know Springsteen isn't about making the top dollar, but logically Giants Stadium would be the best venue IMO because of how much more seating it has and gives that many more fans an opportunity go go

You've got 2 brand new venues in Giants Stadium and the Rock, both of which he's never played at before so I'd hate to see Izod get chosen

Michael Buble has more fans than the Devils.

Meh, this is the only Michael Bublé fan you should be jealous of.

Worldwide? That's awesome stuff.

Bruce Springsteen should want to play at The Rock.
The Izod has become a trash pit the last few years.

Dr Grant 12-22-2011 11:26 AM

They have held a few big UFC events at the rock so that helps.

Can someone please tell me why the dump at the Meadowlands still exists?

In a word? Politics.

MartyOwns 12-22-2011 12:34 PM
