Give the C to Gorges

I wasn't a big fan of giving Gorges the C last year because his situation was unclear and his play still needed to be proven longer , but since he just signed a 6 years contract and will be with us until his middle 30s , I think it's time to step up and give the C to the real leader of this club.I don't hate Gionta , but the guy bull only go downhill from here and he doesn't really seems like that great of a captain anyway.

If the stars did it to Modano , we can certainly do it to Gionta.

Coldplay 01-02-2012 02:02 PM

Nope. Gionta is our captain, as he should be.

Price My Man Crush 01-02-2012 02:03 PM

This should have been done last year. The players have chosen Gio. :(

And why is that? The guy doesn't do his job and is overpaid , not exactly a recipe of leadership success.

FF de Mars 01-02-2012 02:05 PM

To make it less drastic, we could also name Gorges C until Gionta comes back. Then, when Gionta's contract has expired or when he is traded, Gorges can step up.

Leads the Habs in goals every year, gives it his all every shift.

But he's overpaid! That must be it! A new prerequisite for being captain!

That's not exactly hard is it

Gionta is not a good captain , we can see it in tough times nobody really step up except Gorges.

Tell me more. You seem to know all about the behind the scenes.

MasterDecoy 01-02-2012 02:31 PM

i think benchbrawl would prefer cammalleri to be captain

VAN-HAB 01-02-2012 02:33 PM

YES,

and trade Gionta and his friend Gomez, add Cammy, Gill as well.

Habs8517 01-02-2012 02:43 PM

He is the true captain of the Habs. The players wanted him to have the C but stupid management ****ed up by choosing Gionta who is a clone of Martin and Gauthier.

canadiensnation 01-02-2012 02:47 PM

Gionta is the leader on this team. But we do also have many other leaders, Gorges, Gill, Cammy, Gomez, Pleks. Leaders that help out the main leader is called a assistant. This is why players have the A on there jersey.

Pleky Roks 01-02-2012 02:51 PM

Gionta should stay the captain unless he is moved.

Gorges should wear an A no matter what and become captain is Gionta leaves.

Pleky should wear an A as well....and either Cole or Markov should wear the other A.

Stjonnypopo 01-02-2012 03:03 PM

I think a lot of people don't like the silent leaders. A leader doesn't need to be the most vocal guy in the room, he has to lead by example and Gionta is that type of leader. Gorges is definitely the next captain but Gionta is a great captain, IMO.

OneSharpMarble 01-02-2012 03:09 PM

Give Gorges the C and Gionta/Plekanec the A. Gionta is not much of a leader and couldn't give a **** about this team, he is a mercenary and as such should not be the captain.

The Kremelin Wall* 01-02-2012 03:09 PM

Agreed. Just based on how the young guys talk in interviews, Gorges is the man in the dressing room. I don't think anyone has said anything about Gionta, except for Max Pac last year when he was playing with G-Love and Gionta.

Gionta is overpaid, but Gorges isn't? lol

Gorges makes 2.5 at the moment. You can't say he's overpaid until his extension starts next year.

habtastic 01-02-2012 03:19 PM

It'll happen eventually, but Gio is a good captain. Both warriors, just like Saku.

Great captain? This team is going down the drain under his leadership.

And if Gionta is a GREAT captain , what is Denis Potvin? Might want to tone it down a little. He is a decent captain at the most.

OK so we make Gorges captain, then we skyrocket to first place and win the cup this year?

I do think Gorges would make a good captain, but I mean I don't think its really fair to blame his leadership for the team going down the drain.

The team is going down the drain since he got injured. Coincidence?

We weren't above .500 with Gionta in the lineup. Revisionists at their finest acting like the team was doing fine at any point this season.

That's true, but nonetheless, I don't think it is fair to blame our problems on Gionta's leadership.

No he isn't but this isn't about Gorges is it. You want to whine and moan about PG right? You will have to wait longer because Gorges was a great signing.
