Possibility of Kreider making an appearence this season

It doesn't seem like something Torts would do, but in the past we've seen we're just 1 or 2 forward injures away from calling on Avery. After Kreider graduates this year, would he be eligible to join the team if such a situation arrives?

Not saying it's likely, just asking if the league allows it.

Don't know how to answer that one, it's more likely he joins the Whale first before the Rangers though

Blue Blooded 01-03-2012 03:52 PM

IIRC he can sign with the Rangers after the NCAA season is over, but this will burn off a year of his ELC. If he plays for the Whale, the contract will slide.

DrSutton* 01-03-2012 03:53 PM

Zero possibility.

BroadwayBlues 01-03-2012 03:56 PM

A possibility.

It would depend on how he looks (I'm assuming he sees time with the Whale) in the AHL and do the Rangers want to burn a year on his ELC.

If this is the case then there's no chance Kreider touches NHL ice this year. I don't think anyone was expecting him to anyway.

Thanks. Interesting to know the possibilities.

Tawnos 01-03-2012 04:07 PM

Does playing only in the playoffs burn the year as well?

If not and he tears up the AHL at the end of the season and the team runs into an injury issue in the playoffs, he might play then.

ecemleafs 01-03-2012 04:16 PM

could sign an ATO with the whale after his finals are over.

gravey9 01-03-2012 04:25 PM

I believe the Rangers have to sign him by July 1 or he can re-enter the draft. Having him signed and available for a potential deep playoff run is not out of the realm of possibility. And should be considered.

darrenturcotte#8 01-03-2012 04:51 PM

IF he looks great in Hartford and IF the Rangers have serious injury problems to their top 6 (Gaborik is made of glass after all) and IF the Rangers think they have a shot at the cup despite the injuries, than yes, its possible. Put it at say, 2%?

HatTrick Swayze 01-03-2012 04:56 PM

I can't see them burning a year on his ELC. It is not impossible but I think it is very unlikely.

007 01-03-2012 05:51 PM

It's so improbable, it might as well be impossible. Provided his college career is done, I could see him signing an ATO with the Whale, though.

Nope

he needs to be signed by next july or he will become a UFA

SwedishBullet62 01-03-2012 07:33 PM

Hopefully he just signs an ato and plays out the season with the whale, no need to waste a year on his ELC to find his footing in the NHL while we're I'm the thick of things.

Completely forgot about that...damn we better sign him.

Dorado* 01-03-2012 07:40 PM

What's the odds of him NOT signing with us and looking to go the free agent route like some guys I believe like Umberger have done in the past ?

Vitto79 01-03-2012 08:04 PM

With Kreider and Miller , even Thomas competing for roster spots next yr it has me thinking the team should not sign a big name LW

just go with:

Anisimov, Stepan, Gaborik
Dubinsky, Richards, Callahan
Hagelin, Boyle, Miller/Kreider/Thomas
Rupp, Lindberg/Mitchell, Prust

Can always deal for a rental winger at the deadline

NYRJules 01-03-2012 09:17 PM

Kreider if anything will be signed to an ATO in CT after his season/graduation, but IMO I feel he doesn't even want to be apart of NY as he is from MA, goes to BC, and cheered for the Bruins cup run. Then again I could be completely wrong and can't wait to be in the show....

I would hope not.

My hope is that we are playing well enough for the rest of the season to be fighting for Presidents Trophy.

Do not want to see Kreider here for just a cup of coffee.

Sign him, and send him straight to the Whale

MortUWary 01-03-2012 09:33 PM

One thing that we should all consider is that Kreider and his agent may be savvy enough to get the Rangers to sign him to a professional contract at the conclusion of BC's season with the understanding of "burning" a year off of his ELC. I believe Jack Johnson had that kind of "arrangement" when he signed with the Kings (going from College to NHL after two years at Michigan) in 2007.

It could be CK and his agent's only leverage: threaten to not sign with the Rangers at all vs. getting one year closer to free agency. Sather/Gorton may have to concede this one if the negotiations get contentious. Personally, I'd hate to lose a first rounder like him and would consider it if they laid that kind of scenario/ultimatum out.

0%....it aint gonna happen. let the kid get ready for next season.

broadwayblue 01-03-2012 11:18 PM

Does Kreider need to be signed by this July (2012) or next July (2013) to maintain his rights?

So plenty of time. Some of the comments above scared me, but we've got more than a year and a half to get him signed. Thanks.
