NYR Steiner Sports Signing Sunday 1/8

Hey guys, just wanted to spread the word to those who might not know. Sunday from 1130-1 will be Richter and Giacomin signing autographs in Yonkers, and from 130-3pm will be Hank, Dubi and Callahan. Will def be heading there, hope to get pics with all three, for the 2nd session.

Actually found this out from a retweet on Hanks twitter.

Any idea on prices. These kinds of things are usually a little over the top. Please let me know if you find out, would love to get Cally on my heritage jers.

Dubi and Cally with both be at Buddy Sports Corner in Paramus on the 6th also for those in NJ like me.

Apparently its 100.00 for them both to sign a picture or puck.

Costs a ton, I think they hit me for $50 on a Lundqvist signing last time.

does that $$ go to the players, the place that holds the event, or both?

The money goes to Steiner Sports.

They pay the players a flat fee to appear.

Steiner is paying the players and paying them a lot. Lundqvist has an exclusive contract with Steiner, and I believe Dubinsky, and Cally do as well. Anyways, they pay the players and in-turn charge for the autographs. The player gets paid whether 200 people buy tickets or 2 buy tickets.

If you go to Steiners page and click on "Upcoming signings" you can see the prices. They also have different packages where you can get multiple sigs.

Steiner rents the space for the signing as well.

(No, I do not work for steiner, but have done business with them in the past).

thanks for the answers guys.

I'd make comments about players who make millions due to the support of fans, needing to get paid to spend a few hours with said fans, but that's the world we live in........

patnyrnyg 01-03-2012 07:34 PM

well, they are giving up their free time to come to the event and just like everyone of us, their time is worth money. If they did it for free, everyone would want them to come to their event and how do they say yes to some and no others? Autographs and Memorabilia has become a big business. I have made money selling autographs, so why should the players not get a piece of it?

Like I said, I know that it's the way sport is run now and why it happens, I'm just not a fan of it.

I don't want to take this thread off on a tangent so I'll just leave it at that.

Would give my left nut to be there just to get The King sign my home jersey. Sadly, New York is pretty far from Melbourne Australia.

If only I did my trip to NY one year later...

Does anyone here know the difference between the pricing of an autograph vs. inscription? The inscription is much cheaper. Not familiar.

Would this be why some athletes refuse to sign autographs outside an arena, or at other spots where a fan might run into them?

Some athletes refuse to sign autographs because they know a lot of people just turn around and put them on ebay. I think this is why Jagr doesn't sign, if I remember correctly?

Some of them only sign for kids for this reason as well.

Wouldn't surprise me if there were such deals. The harder an autograph is to get the more people would pay at such events as this one

Not really, but a lot do have more than 1 signature. Eli Manning is known to have 4. A simple E---- M---- (the ---- just being a straight line) when he is signing for free. This is mainly because at training camp or if you can catch him outside the timex center, he gets swamped and wants to get as many as possible. He then has "Eli Mannnnnng" which is his paid signature for Steiner and other events. A very nice looking signature. He then has "Elisha Nelson Manning" which he only signs for select people or if you pay him A LOT. I know one dealer has one, said he paid him an extra $500 for that one during a private signing. Then he has his regular signature he uses for documents such as signing his contract, a check, etc. The "free" signature sells for A LOT less than his paid signature on the secondary market.

Other reason is the player is often in a rush if you catch them somewhere, where at a paid signing they are going to take the time to get it right each time.

Lundqvist will sign. I saw him up in the 400's during a pre-season game a few years ago. He signed my ticket and it does look exactly the same as the autos of him I have for which I paid.
