Brayden Schenn....

I like this kid and was happy to get him in the trade ...but, what is our record with him in the line-up. I know at the start of the season we started out well and he was injured, then we kind of forced him back in the line-up..moved some guys and lost then he was hurt again and we went on another winning streak then he came back and we started losing again. Just curious as to our record with him and with out and iwondering why. :help:

DJS21 01-03-2012 06:27 PM

4-5

They're 4-5 with him, 18-6-4 without him. It's under ten games.....very small sample.

Thanks....it is a small sample and I don't believe it's just him just wondering if they're trying to fit him into a spot that doesn't need to be fixed.

They want Schenn to be the 3rd line center. Talbot does not have to be a center. Now that Schenn has scored a goal, he'll get going. He had a strong game yesterday and had a great day taking faceoffs, which we need badly from someone.

MsWoof 01-03-2012 09:08 PM

It's time to start playing him and Couturier more. I want to see what they can do with some responsibility.

laundryman 01-03-2012 09:14 PM

I'd love to see him start producing. He's got plenty of time to make an impact for the rest of the year, despite the rough start. Seemed to play much better than I had ever seen him yesterday. Hopefully he's a producer on the big stage and can make an impact come playoff time.

I noticed his faceoffs and was very satisfied. We need a good faceoff man badly. Both at offensive and defensive faceoffs. We haven't had a proper faceoff man since Betts.

I agree. He looked good. Hopefully he can build on this. He is a big part of the future of this team and I look forward to his growth.

Still hoping for johnathan toews 2.0 :sarcasm:

flyershockey 01-03-2012 10:51 PM

They want him in the lineup because it's time for him to start competing at the NHL level. He's had enough time in AHL and it's clear that he's ready to step into that third line center role. I'm sure getting his first will get him going, as he's no longer pressing to get it out of the way.

Kaktus* 01-03-2012 11:03 PM

Canada could really use Schenn today against Russians

bryzgalovsky* 01-04-2012 12:05 AM

Hartnell Giroux Schenn

we need schenn to win faceoffs, because apparently, he's the only one on the team who can.

maybe do

Hartnell - Giroux - Couturier
Simmonds - Schenn - Voracek
vanRiemsdyk - Briere - Read
Rinaldo - Talbot - Zolnierczyk

Honestly, I'd rather put Briere on G's wing in that scenario (makes a ton of sense given Danny's goal-scoring ability and the Hartnell connection). We need Couturier's size and defensive ability in the middle.

Hartnell - Giroux - Briere
vanRiemsdyk - Couturier - Read
Simmonds - Schenn - Voracek
Rinaldo - Talbot - Zolnierczyk

This is a VERY good idea

I love Schenn getting more minutes. This goal SHOULD make him more confident and get him to dig more for those pucks.

Briere-Giroux never really worked together.

Hartnell - Giroux - Voracek
JVR - Schenn - Briere
Simmonds - Couturier - Read
Rinaldo - Talbot - Z/Sestito

SolidSnakeUS 01-04-2012 04:57 AM

I hope he stays as our 3rd or 4th center. He has looked great since he's been back from injury.

StandingCow 01-04-2012 05:18 AM

Really like his play, he is definitely like Richards light.

Spongolium* 01-04-2012 12:34 PM

He's going to be a better player that Richards I believe. He has everything. Can throw a mean hit, fights, has great hands and one thing that Richards doesn't have. Face-off ability. Guy is going to be such a force in this league.

Love all the proposals to get rid of him before he's played 10 games.

This. Move Briere to wing.

Hartnell-Giroux-Jagr
JvR-Schenn-Briere
Read-Couturier-Voracek
Simmonds-Talbot-Rinaldo

Some version of this is ideal long-term (and, except for Simmonds-Read, matches my NHL 12 lines exactly), but I just don't see it happening.

Danny B seems to have a stone-cold lock on 2C, regardless of his inconsistent offensive production and consistently bad defense.

I call it the Jimmy Rollins effect--just as JRoll will always revert to the lead-off position, despite objective evidence to the contrary, so Danny will always end up centering the second line.

Given the choice between JVR or Schenn on the top line, I think it makes more sense to put Brayden there in Jagr's absence. Playing with Giroux should help him build on the confidence created from the WC goal. Let Couturier and Talbot play on the 3rd line together, and roll some combination of Harry Z, Rinaldo, etc. on the fourth. Stick JVR there for a few minutes a game, or send him to the Dr. to get sorted out. No sense in trying to force-feed Giroux and JVR, given how the latter is playing at the moment.

Something like:

Hartnell-Roo-Schenn
Simmonds-Briere-Read
Talbot-Couturier-Voracek
JVR-Harry Z-Rinaldo / etc.

This is correct, but the Flyers will never relegate Simmonds to the fourth line even though he is our 10th best forward in terms of producing offense.

Yeah its a case of the numbers not telling the whole story. He plays much better than a few guys with higher numbers than him.

Kaktus* 01-04-2012 03:56 PM

I do not know, I was very impressed with Sestito. His size, his skating and he can generate some scoring chances too. Guy looked as big as Lindros. That does not mean Rinaldo is bad but Sestito creates a lot more room. imo.

I wish both could play on PK. That would be one hell of 4th line.
