Sidney Crosby to KHL

Sid's contract with Penguins is to expire after next season. What are the chances for KHL to land the "Next One". I do really believe it's possible, at least for couple of years. I mean, it would be very tough to decline, let's say, $25m/year offer. And these digits are far from impossible in Russia, since FC Anzhi (Makhachkala) is paying to Samuel Eto'o 21m euros, which is around 26,7m dollars. Furthermore, since taxes in Russia are 13% for residents the clean salary for Sid will be $21,7 m a year. 3 year contract = 65,1 million dollars you can spend. How much and how long do you need to earn in America or Canada to get that kind of money with their taxes of 50%? I believe it should take 12 years for a hockey player like Crosby with a salary of $11 million per year (that's what he'll be offered in open market, i think). After business trip like that he will be able to return to NHL at the age of 29 for his prime years.
Also he should keep in mind that KHL is much less physical league, where huge hits come once in a while. The bigger field - more space to avoid hits. And after his concussion history it will be like a doctor recipe for him. So, what you guys think?

It's about as likely as me winning the lottery and then donating it all to charity.

Not sure Mario would be willing to move to Russia.

He'd probably be completely tax exempt as well.

If I were him that's what I would do given the injury history. Might as well make 4-5x the money in a less headshotty league rather than sign here and get run by everybody. 20 million in the KHL vs 5 million after taxes and escrow + a retirement inducing concussion in the NHL. Not that hard of a choice.

Bennrocks 01-07-2012 02:05 AM

Makes sense less likely to get a concussion

WinterEmpire 01-07-2012 02:05 AM

0, I'm sure he makes more than enough money from endorsements and his NHL contract.

Shanahanigans 01-07-2012 02:05 AM

Sid just doesn't seem like a money hungry guy (he's getting paid enough). If he can play, it will be with the Pens, and you can take that to the penguins in Antarctica and tell them!

No Fun Shogun 01-07-2012 02:12 AM

Negative 16% chance of happening.

Phion Keneuf 01-07-2012 02:13 AM

LMAO NO hahah

PAZ 01-07-2012 02:38 AM

If Crosby ever did entertain an idea of goign to the KHL for x amount of money, you can be sure that the NHL would step in and offer close through endorsements and sponsorships. He's their poster child, no chance.

This plus your avatar made me chuckle

Kane One 01-07-2012 02:43 AM

Yeah ****ing right he will ever play in Europe (especially the KHL). If he had to, he will take minimum salary to stay in the NHL. And with the direction the league is heading, Crosby will get whatever he wants from any NHL team.
