Anyone miss Mike Fisher?

As a hockey player, not as the kind person that he was.

I was watching some of his highlights, and I can't say that I miss his contributions to the team, that said, it is just my opinion.

GOLeafsWootWoot 01-10-2012 11:56 PM

I miss his wife Being in Canada lol

11Alfredsson 01-11-2012 12:01 AM

With the emergence of the "kids" and the team as a whole its hard to miss anyone that left us. It's too fun to watch the team play hockey right now to miss anything.

DylanSensFan 01-11-2012 12:03 AM

I have a Fisher Jersey...

I wish him well where ever he plays, but no, I do not miss him in the slightest. I barely recall him playing for our team, after the crazy season we've had and the kick ass draft with Zibanejad scoring the winning WJC goal. Just been too good a season for Senators folks to even make have a recollection.

He is a bow hunter like me, which I think is cool.

SensontheRush 01-11-2012 12:07 AM

I remember when he was traded and I felt like ____ for the next few days because of it  he was a fav player of mine....but I guess that was short-lived. Not a good enough player to leave a mark ALA Alfie I guess. :dunno:

Senacus Maximus 01-11-2012 12:09 AM

Not at all. I was initially so pissed about all the Vets getting traded, but at this point I couldn't care less.

That's not a shot at them or anything, I certainly recognize what they did for the team and all.

On to better things.

FolignoQuantumLeap 01-11-2012 12:14 AM

He was always a frustrating player to watch for me so I was pretty happy when he was traded and I'm really not missing him at all now. Having said that, I wish nothing but success in Nashville, which was a great place for him to go both professionally and personally. He was a soldier here in Ottawa and I'lll never forget some of the good memories he provided me but it was time to move on.

SENSfreak_03 01-11-2012 12:17 AM

Who?

Sensation 01-11-2012 12:19 AM

Sure I miss him, he was one of my favorite players on the Sens and still is.

But, with the emergence of the kids and it looking like we have a true second line center now in Turris, he has been replaced.

DrEasy 01-11-2012 12:21 AM

I miss Chara and Hossa much more.

Benny FTW 01-11-2012 12:25 AM

I miss Vermette more and i barely miss him.

Senateurs 01-11-2012 12:26 AM

SP 01-11-2012 12:32 AM

So a do you miss Vermette thread next? :sarcasm:

dystemper 01-11-2012 12:45 AM

i miss him, but it was worth it.

noeson seems like he's got the same type of firecracker playstyle as fisher, with untapped potential. could be a real good player for us in 2-3 years if not sooner. he's leading a very good plymouth squad down in the OHL.

Stylizer1 01-11-2012 12:53 AM

I never liked him as a 2nd line centre. I was glad when he left.

NyQuil 01-11-2012 12:55 AM

It's hard to miss anyone when you're on a hot streak.

We'll see what happens if the secondary scoring slumps.

By and large though, I think that between Turris, Smith, Foligno and Condra, we're in good shape.

Stylizer1 01-11-2012 01:02 AM

The guy is on pace for 40 points, again.

Nuff said.

If I were Nashville I would be sad in giving up the first rounder.

CanadianHockey 01-11-2012 01:03 AM

Over the years I've watched a bunch of my favourite Sens leave - Redden, Hossa, Lalime, Volchenkov, Fisher, Vermette, etc. It sucks seeing them go, but I can always look forward to the new faces that will inevitably replace them, and I can always look back and remember their tenures and contributions with the team. So yeah, I miss Fisher nostalgically. At the same time, I don't think we need to reacquire him right now.

I'm sure Poile can feel better by looking at what Lombardi got for his first rounder.

danishh 01-11-2012 01:33 AM

Smitty has efectively replaced him offensively without eating up as much icetime. By next year a combination of smith turris and zibanejad wil make the trade look like a no-brainer.

The only sens we've ever missed as much on the ice as we did off it were chara and tugger.

The tugger trade was brutal. Ottawa and Barrasso went out to the leafs in the first round, Tugger and the Penguins made it to at least the second. Including one game that had four overtimes or something.

I remember that year very well. Still miss Tugger :(

Beville 01-11-2012 01:56 AM

Nah...

Only Hasek and Vermette.

Universal Mind 01-11-2012 02:30 AM

Not really, I miss Kells more.

Pretty much this. I really didn't want to break the 2005/06 teams, but eventually they become replaced. Not necessarily by better players immediately, but eventually you find the next guy to make his mark.

Fisher was an amazing third line C, and sort of wore out his welcome as a second line C, but he brought a lot more to the table than just his point totals (no, not Underwood).

Speaking of ex Sens really makes me wonder which of our current crop aren't in our long term plans. I can realistically see Alfredsson, Phillips, and Neil all retiring as Senators, and I'm optimistic about Spezza and Karlsson but really some of our current favs could even be gone by the off season.
