Penguins vs Capitals. 7:30pm. Verizon Center. 1.11.2012

We should win by around 4-1.

Penguins are useless birds who can't fly.

Go Caps, stick a fork in em.

Pittsburgh Penguins (21-16-4)
Washington Capitals (21-17-2)

Quote:

Two nights after finishing off a fruitless West Coast trip with losses in San Jose and Los Angeles by identical 5-2 scores, the Capitals return to the friendly confines of Verizon Center to start a four-game homestand, their longest to date this season. Washington will have a five-game homestand from Feb.28-March 8, its longest overall in 2011-12.

First up are the Pittsburgh Penguins, in town on Wednesday night. In most recent seasons, a Capitals-Penguins meeting in mid-January would be a marquee match-up featuring two of the league’s top teams, rosters rife with stars on both sides. Both clubs have had more than their share of struggles lately, both on the ice and in the infirmary.

We should, but will we? Two teams that don't know how to win = an OT game in my books.

Caps lose because WE SUCK.

I would have thought this would be the one team the Caps play where Caps fans on both sides of the aisle (Capsareawesome/Capsareterrible) could just cheer against the *other* team.

That said, the Caps always get up for the Pens. 5-2 good guys.

Vladiator16 01-11-2012 07:56 AM

Allright, spent a lot of $ on the tickets for this one, win you ****ers!

Did anything come out of that practice sighting of Neal yesterday, amid claims that he's not as badly injured as originally thought?

EDIT: Seems he's playing, as he played 16:41 last night.

Just a bruise. Played 16 minutes last night in a 5-1 loss to Ottawa.

txpd 01-11-2012 08:47 AM

a combined 7 game streak. crosby and backstrom out, letang and green out. the national value of caps v pens is gone. on to newer and better things.

BrooklynCapsFan 01-11-2012 08:59 AM

Will you stop posting **** that you make up as of its ****ing news. There is no update on Backstrom starting tonight. He remains day to day until the team clarifies his status.

tycoonheart 01-11-2012 09:01 AM

No Backstrom at practice according to Whyno.

txpd 01-11-2012 09:02 AM

nothing official on green either. its just common sense, bud. this team doesnt clarify these things. whyno's tweets say green absent "as expected" and then backstrom absent "not a surprise". if you disagree, its ok with me. just say so. the rest isnt necessary.

WetHog 01-11-2012 09:12 AM

JUST ****ING WIN!!!

Please

tycoonheart 01-11-2012 09:13 AM

Stephen Whyno
#Caps lines: Ovechkin-Johansson-Semin, Knuble-Laich-Brouwer, Chimera-Halpern-Ward, Hendricks-Perreault-Beagle.

Orlov and Kundratek paired.

Tarik El-Bashir
Potential #Caps D pairings: 27-74; 44-6; 81-36 (Kundratek). Nos. 4 and 55 are out there, too.

Carlzner 01-11-2012 09:16 AM

Looks like Schultz and Erskine to be scratched.

You said nothing about Whyno, which is the point. It's impossible to tell whether the definitive statements that you make are actual news or idle speculation from the desk of txpd. Which the defeats the purpose of reading a news consolidating message board.

strungout 01-11-2012 09:17 AM

Schultz....man. Hilarious.

+50!

tycoonheart 01-11-2012 09:22 AM

I'm surprised Erskine doesn't seem to be getting any favors from Dale and JJ.

They seem to really like puck moving defensemen with an offensive edge.

not really an endorsement of erskine either. its ugly for both of them. orlov and tk are going to make for an interesting view. vokoun(or whoever the goalies is...no announcement has been made and its unclear who the starter will be.....bdf....is that better?) is going to have an interesting time when they are on the ice

strungout 01-11-2012 09:26 AM

I think Erskine is still struggling with the shoulder, so him getting a scratch isnt that big a deal to me. Plus he's a 6th or 7th d man anyways.

Schultz...at $2.75...should be playing...but isn't. Big giant soft piece of garbage. Come on Chicago. You know you want to.

i think its mobility. hunter wants to play man to man and a defenseman has to be able to chase the forwards and keep up to play man to man.

tk is 190lbs.

tycoonheart 01-11-2012 09:26 AM

Stephen Whyno
Nicklas Backstrom placed on IR retroactive to last Tuesday

Stephen Whyno
Backstrom on IR retroactively means he could be activated at any time. IR is 7 day minimum. Gives roster space for Kundratek

Chimaera 01-11-2012 09:38 AM

You can take +50 and that 3 million to the bank!

sk84fun_dc 01-11-2012 09:40 AM

Backstrom to IR retroactive to 1/4, now there's a surprise :sarcasm:

Orlov Kundratek pairing .... on paper that's scary seeing the two paired together.

Of note, Orlov and Kundratek only played in the same Hershey game once this season on 11/13 vs Bridgeport.

I was thinking maybe they'd pair Kundratek with Hamrlik for the vet/rookie pairing plus the Czech aspect.

Kundratek is Czech so should help in terms of goalie/dman communications, one would hope.
