“I’m going to clear it up for everyone who’s listening,” Marchand said. “It was actually a really sneaky play by Thorty. Weise was trying to fight McQuaid, who was standing behind Thornton on the point. McQuaid was going to fight him. So, Weise was yelling and saying, ‘Yeah, let’s go, let’s go.’

“Thorty just figured that at that point he’d drop his gloves and surprise Weise. And the ref just kind of heard Weise yelling ‘Let’s go’ and thought he was talking to Thorty and conning him into a penalty. Thorty kind of surprised him when Thorty dropped his gloves. Weise had no idea Thorty was going to do that.”

McQuaid...holy smokes. He pounded Torres.

Thornton is a POS as is the entire Bruins Organization right now. They won a cup and they think they can do anything with impunity.

Ya, I was gonna say...not much better then Thornton. Probably would have smoked the Weise.

Apologies to Weise.

This.

McQuaid is legit tough.

Treefingers 01-11-2012 03:43 PM

Well, there you go. As dubious as it is, maybe Cherry will apologize to Weise on the next CC...

AndyPipkin 01-11-2012 03:46 PM

Credit to Marchand, he didn't need to try and clear up anything.

blaney 01-11-2012 03:51 PM

Yeah, I wonder why Marchand did that

He needs to, but will he?

VanEric 01-11-2012 04:05 PM

Now Brad Marchand is going to have to fight Shawn Thornton for ratting him out.

monster_bertuzzi 01-11-2012 04:07 PM

What a team full of snakes...

Since he revealed this on a radio show from Boston, where he has a weekly appearance, he might just have felt comfortable and shared a story in a friendly invironment (aka knowing the broadcaster, and knowing that he is not going to get ripped for anything).

That entire interview is actually pretty interesting to listen to.

And mad props to Weise for challenging McQuaid. Taking that guy off the ice for five minutes would have been great. The price Weise was willing to pay for that - just wow. If that's not a huge addiction to the team toughness department, I don't know what is.

meh, I wouldn't put stock into what Marchand claims to be the truth - even if it's something we'd like the hear.

What's Marchand's angle then?

Beats me - doesn't sound like a bright individual ratting out on a teammate - a tough teammate who could take him with both his arms tied behind his back.

I believe it, though, because even in Thornton's interview after the game he said he wasn't sure that Weise's challenge had been directed at him. I remember hearing him say this and thinking, huh, maybe Weise isn't the dirty, conniving, chicken-snake of a man that he's being made out to be.

I think maybe he was trying to praise "Thorty" for his "really sneaky play", and didn't realize he was kind of throwing a teammate under the bus.

Reign Nateo 01-11-2012 04:39 PM

Situation definitely makes more sense. But I didn't blame Weise anyway. He'd already fought and should have gotten us a PP out of that. Thornton was the idiot before and still is.

Either way, I'd be highly shocked (though pleasantly surprised) if Cherry apologized for calling out Weise and conversely trashing Marchand for making Thorton look bad (remember, he's your bodyguard).

Stefan It Up 01-11-2012 04:51 PM

Thornton's all about jumping guys isn't he? Weise, Tony Gallagher....
