Stepan or Ansimov: Who is better?

I figured since they are both young centers (even though anisimov is playing lw right now) on the rangers they are comparable and was wondering who you guys thought was better between the two.

Artem Anisimov had 28 points his rookie season with 12:54 TOI and
44 points his second season with 16:12 TOI

Derek Stepan had 45 points his rookie season with 16:27 TOI.

This season stepan has 27 points in 40 games and Anisimov has 22 points in 39 games.

While this is anisimov's 3rd full season and stepan's second i still give the edge to stepan. i think stepan only has a slight edge now but i think he will be much better than anisimov in the future. His vision and passing ability is much better than Anisimov's imo.

So who do you guys think is/will be better.

Stepan and AINEC

Erroneous

Definitely Stepan. Arty is very good, by no means is this a put down to him.

Stepan.

I think it's Step, but for devil's advocate:

I think Artie is still learning his game in the NHL. He a lanky guy, but is getting stronger along the boards. At 23 years old, he's filling out his frame and is getting stronger, but I could see him getting better along the boards in the next few years.

Also with the more strength he gains, the better hitter and better he'll become at coming out on top of the hits he receives, which to me is his biggest flaw right now. He'll also be better in the defensive zone the stronger he gets, and he is already one of the better players defensively on the team.

Another overlooked thing is the communication. It's obvious that Artie isn't great in speaking English, but he is getting a lot better. The better he can communicate with coaches and teammates, the better for him. The fact this team is so close to me will help his development more than it would other players on the roster, just because of his lack of English knowledge as of now.

I hope we keep both, for the simple fact, as Brad Richards gets older, these two will be the guys that take over the center spot for this team in terms of the top 6.

Stepan.

McMonster 01-11-2012 05:44 PM

Stepan is the better all-around player... Possibly the 2nd best passer on the team and he also has a great shot. Anisimov just snipes one every once in a while. Arty is better in his own end though.

i said to early to tell.i think the languge barrier was a major hurdle for him and hes still working on it. he shows flashes of great plays offensively and defensively.i just think one day down the line here hes really gonna pay big time dividends. and step i think as well is a good young player who will be around here for a long time playing great hockey. i think he has the edge on artie right now. i hope there both here a long time

"Better" isn't really helpful when it comes to these two players.

I think that Stepan is more valuable, I think that he has a higher offensive upside, and I think that he has much better offensive zone vision.

But Anisimov is bigger, stronger, has a better shot, and is better in the defensive zone.

End of day, both are players that you want on your team.We are lucky enough to have noth so who is better isn't really important at the end of the day.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Well, I wouldn't have said "noth" I would have said "both" but we all can't be perfect. ;-)

SRTtoZ 01-11-2012 06:30 PM

Stepan and it aint even close.

SwedishBullet62 01-11-2012 07:03 PM

stepan without a doubt.

Vitto79 01-11-2012 07:06 PM

I still think its too early to tell but I see why people say Stepan , he stepped right in and in his 2nd yr has gotten better while its taken AA a few yrs to start producing the pts

like them both. Did the Russian factor have any influence? I get the impression some people think Russian players never reach their promise

With all do respect to Arty.. IMO It's Stepan without hesitation..Today, tommorrow and into the future.. My only question here is, if theres a better passer night in and night out on this team than Stepan i'd like to know what number he is so i can start watching for him.

Step.

Ailurophile 01-11-2012 09:07 PM

Whoever gives me a million dollars.

IBleedNYRBlue 01-11-2012 09:08 PM

Stepan.

WeWillWinTonight 01-11-2012 09:10 PM

Stepan.

Once he develops more and maybe matures physically he'll be on a whole nother level

BlueshirtBlitz 01-11-2012 09:14 PM

Stepan, but Arty is much better than him defensively. No idea where these "Steps is our best defensive forward" posts have been coming from.

KingWantsCup 01-11-2012 09:17 PM

Stepan. Anisimov is still a good player though. He does lots of little things to help you win. Stepan isn't as good defensively but he's offensively better at the moment and has a higher ceiling IMO.

Darrelle Lundqvist 01-11-2012 09:18 PM

Stepan. I've been very impressed with his game as of late.

SomebodySaveKreider 01-11-2012 09:35 PM

Stepan.

Thats NO knock on Artie, but Stepan has first line center written all over him.

Artie to me will be a solid 2/3rd line center, which is not a bad thing in any way, shape or form.
