How would you react if Gauthier traded Subban ?

Just read the articles today from Mathias Brunet and Phillipe Cantin... Both of them fear that Gauthier might go berzerk and trade Subban.

How would you react if he did ? Some of you might say it depends on the return. If so,then what would be an acceptable return for him?

I know I don't see much that would satisfy me apart from superstars.

Even though he makes mistakes, the pressure on him is ridiculously high, and so is his icetime. Still, he's been a constant source of pure appreciation of the sport and one of the few reasons I still watch games this season.

For once in many years we have that kind of player on the lineup, his trade could be a real dealbraker for me.

The only way I accept a Subban trade is if it addresses our biggest need. A big, young (not past his prime is sufficient), superstar center.

Habs 01-20-2012 11:25 AM

Obviously it depends on what we got back in return. Every player is moveable.

Beakermania* 01-20-2012 11:27 AM

Lets see:

22 years old
Playing top minutes on the team, against other team's best line
Even in plus/minus
Struggling offensively in a sophomore slump but still on pace for around 35 pts, however has potential to be a dynamic offensive player.

You don't trade this for anything less than a gigantic overpayment... you just dont.

Subban should be part of the core we build around. People forget how much Price struggled in his 2nd/3rd years in the league.

LyricalLyricist 01-20-2012 11:29 AM

I'd be very unhappy unless it was a great deal. There's no need to give up on subban and at this point in the season, unless it's a long term piece like Subban would be for us, it would be completely illogical. These moves should be made in summer if anything.

Habs 4 Life 01-20-2012 11:30 AM

Massive over payment by the other team but unfortunately we are talking about Pierre Gauthier:help:

Whitesnake 01-20-2012 11:31 AM

Makes no sense unless there's a MAJOR OVERPAYMENT coming our way. Which means not only a key top 6 young player up front but also a great upcoming prospect on D closer to the NHL than Beaulieu and Co are.

Everything else is bad, bad, bad.

Unless the return was phenomenal, I'd probably do a lot of yelling, punch some stuff, turn in my fan card and start following the Red Wings

Kingbobert 01-20-2012 11:33 AM

the only way i dont flip the frak out and sneak to gauthier house and dowse him with beef stock, veal stock and chicken stock is if we trade him for another young stud defenceman preferably proven...but who in their mind would do that

i would not trade him for a forward because that would create a whole in our D.
Its not like we have mcdonaugh nor are beaulieu and tinordi ready to take his place.

you want a big center
package pleky, weber and a 1st and get that proven big superstar center

subban pleks and price are the only players that have real value here
pleky is the more moveable one

So basically Malkin since Crosby is not big.

larek 01-20-2012 11:36 AM

of course it depends on what the return is- i wouldnt go nuts if he was traded for a true goodsized center- im reading habfans and some of the goofy posters saying how Kaberle is playing better than Subban- LOL
Yes Subban has not been as good as his first season BUt then the team istself hasnt been as good and reallyy a 22 year old D man getting top minutes in all roles and ahagainst other teams top lines----- you plainly see who the best And most talented player was for Canadiens against Rangers Subban by a wide margin- i think he has picked up his game some the last while- maybe trade Kaberle to get a good return he plays PP and little else No wonder his plus minus is decent --even the PP is worse stats wise than before he showed up -- LOL Insane LOL LOL

Lafleurs Guy 01-20-2012 11:36 AM

I'd prefer this not happen. :)

Monctonscout 01-20-2012 11:36 AM

I would be very pissed unless it was for about 5 players in the NHL...Doughty, Malkin, Stamkos, Seguin, RNH.

Kriss E 01-20-2012 11:36 AM

No sense unless it involves a player of similar impact, and maybe more.
Bobby Ryan would not suffice.

Who would be today's equivalent of Denis Savard?

Joking aside, there's no way we recieve full value for PK, considering Gauthier is our GM. I have a bad feeling about all this trade PK talk.

shutehinside 01-20-2012 11:37 AM

It would all depend on the return back. trade to Columbus for their 1st and I don't think you'll hear many complaints, smae with Nashville for one of their big 2 d-men.

What works against us is that we're not dealing from a position of strength right now which normally means you lose the trade. Also, if we're going for a rebuild, isn't a guy prospect like PK EXACTLY what you want to buiild around? Who's going to pick up his team leading minutes? Markov when he comes back? Unlikely he'll even be able to play going forward.

No, I don't think we'll trade him and if we do, we'll probably lose the trade anyway which is why we can't make it. Then again, look at what Edmonton got for Penner or what we got for Rivet. Stranger things have happened.

BobbyFischer* 01-20-2012 11:37 AM

Subban for Janne Niinimaa?

PricePkPatch 01-20-2012 11:37 AM

I'd expect a Kessel-like trade. Nothing less

That would be horrible. Also I don't see the need from Anaheim as they have Fowler

Hopefully Molson would refuse the move by management. If he doesn't the bell centre would be even more empty

Vinny Lecavalier? Joe Thornton?

I suspect you are correct.

jwolf 01-20-2012 11:40 AM

Trading Subban would be unacceptable. Period.
Conventional wisdom would dictate that a trade involving a future, superstar center would be beneficial for both teams - whomever the other team might be - but then we'd be scrambling to look for a #1 defenceman. It doesn't make sense at this point in PK's development, nor at this point in the team's history.
If Markov's health was more certain or if Beaulieu showed that he was ready and capable to take over, then there might be room for debate on this issue. As it stands now, however, any move would be at best a lateral move.

Talent Analyst 01-20-2012 11:41 AM

I don't care if we trade him. But you have to get a better player, otherwise it is unacceptable.

Habaneros 01-20-2012 11:44 AM

If this was ever contemplated! Gauthier isnt the man to pull it off.

If they want 12000 attending games and roits...trade him ..

I think the fans understand Subban, too bad management don't

LyleOdelein 01-20-2012 11:44 AM

I would lose it.
