goes to show the value of getting points early in the season....even if the rangers slip up a bit with the hectic and competitive schedule, they are still pretty much a lock for somewhere in the playoff picture. Let's say they play .500 hockey (which I don't anticipate), they will still break the 100 point mark, which is awesome given the dog fight it has been for them to make the playoffs over the last few seasons.

my only concern is the pace of the last stretch of games, although the 7 game homestand will be a nice breather before the last 8 or so games of the season and the playoffs. im expecting to see a little more Marty then we did last year, cos i dont see us fighting tooth and nail for a playoff spot.

also, playing WSH on the last game of the year is a disappointment. ive grown to like playing division rivals on the last day of the year. it brings a little more excitement. especially if one team doesnt wanna play golf so soon...

There will without a doubt be some rough patches, but I think if we can manage to put together a few of those 4-5 game win streaks we can still win the Atlantic.

I expect us to become a playoff lock before the end of the season and have Marty play a handful of games, so the crazy March we have doesn't tire Hank out too much.

Hank 62, Marty 20? Hank 60, Marty 22?

The funny thing is, Rangers have better records vs the better teams in the league.

Playoff vs. non-playoff teams:
Code:

                W        L        O        P        P %
Playoff        15        5        2        32        0,727
Non-Playoff        16        7        2        34        0,680

A Blues poster on the main boards defined the "elite" teams in the league as the teams with a points percentage of 0.63 or better in an attempt to prove the Blues are legit since they have the best record in the West against this group of teams. This distinction was made due to the top 9 being bunched pretty close together with a bit of a jump down to Pittsburgh in 10th.

Well guess what, the Rangers have dominated against this group:
Code:

                W        L        O        P        P %
+0.63%        7        1        0        14        0,875

If we include the Pens, that changes to 9-2-0 and 0.818 which still is pure domination.

I'm not saying I would prefer the Rangers playing difficult teams, but I think it shows that the Rangers can play with anyone and a hard schedule shouldn't slow us down!

March is a killer.
17 games in 30 days.
4 back to back
only one instance of 2 days off.
Homestand will help but yipes.

Swept In Seven 01-25-2012 04:30 PM

March looks horrible.

NHRangerfan 01-25-2012 05:35 PM

Shows the importance of having a strong 3rd pair on D and giving the Top 4 less minutes heading into the playoffs.

Crease 01-25-2012 05:37 PM

Makes me hesitant to trade several pieces for a top 6 forward. We're gonna need the depth to get through the grind.

TCRF 01-25-2012 06:15 PM

Gonna need them Dmen

NYRKING30 01-25-2012 10:27 PM

best thing is game 82 will not be significant like in years passed. which is what i hoped for before the season started.

district9 01-26-2012 12:31 AM

hopefully we secure the division early and are able to rest hank a lot towards the end of that insane schedule. march is going to be hectic. let's hope philly slips a little and our team keeps playing the right way. 1st place isn't a priority but i think winning the division definitely should be.

also remember that boston has to play just as hectic of a schedule since they've played the same amount of games at this point
