-14 may not seem that cold at first, but if you sit or stand still wathcing a game for 3 hours it might get a bit cold. Also there's a wind coming from the sea so that adds to the cold factor.

Thankfully this is played in Helsinki in the southern Finland. Weather forecast for Northern Finland is expecting up to -40 celsius temperatures in the next days :cold:

FireBylsma 02-01-2012 02:38 PM

U joking?
-14 is nice to play in, almost perfect hockey weather.
It starts to become cold below -20.
But it's possible to play for hours in -35.

Who is joking? I was mostly refering to crowd who are going to sit 3 hours in that weather. Dont think < -14C weather is perfect hockey weather... Heavy exercise in -20C is not recommended for average person. It's also the usual limit to cancel Skiing competitions in World Cup.

Dasachtach 02-01-2012 04:30 PM

Gorgeous jerseys. I missed it last year. Won't miss it this year.

RaskY 02-01-2012 04:33 PM

Will it be on TV? I want to see Granlund again!

Shrimper 02-01-2012 04:38 PM

-14 isn't cold?!

That's bloody freezing.

ed bruin 02-01-2012 04:53 PM

the intro was so epic also it seems even better that both of the teams play in Helsinki

When i did my militairy service we were flown up to Kiruna some time during the "polar night". Two weeks of almost complete ****ing darkness in -30°C. And despite all of the exerces being fairly high intensity i promise you, it was cold as ****!

lol @ those clown jerseys. Always see them in nhl 12.

KiedisA 02-01-2012 05:18 PM

Don't forget Helsinki is a coastal city which might bring the weather over -20¨c.. Add the winds when playing in the old Olympic Stadium so they'd better have some hot water and rum ready..

StrangeVision 02-01-2012 05:20 PM

Holy hell it's Ville Peltonen.

Taking a sauna at 170 degrees Fahrenheit then running outside into a bitter -25 degrees Fahrenheit. Sounds great on the heart.

ijk 02-02-2012 06:31 AM

Forecasts for the game day are between -17 and -20 at the moment.

I can say that the weather is not so awful for a player since you are moving. I have had soccer practises in outdoor fields throughout the whole winter (with the exception of practises this wednesday and friday because -17 is apparently too cold for soccer outside. Thank God!)

The temperature is going to be horrible for the spectators since sitting 3 hours still in a concrete stadium that works like a frozen air-conditioner is not nice.

Waiting for a late train standing still for half an hour in that weather is cold enough for me. Running late to work and inhaling ice-cold air while running was not fun.

Thankfully I declined the offer my dad made that we should go watch the event, since I didn't want to risk freezing my balls.

I was there last year. It was from +1 to -2 celsius a year ago and I swear i thought i was going to die because of the cold. I'm happy I went last year.. in -14 it's going to be ****ing crazy to sit there. Add to it that it's windy in Helsinki (coastal town) It'll most likely feel like -30 C :cold:

Of course it's possible but no one with a sane mind would go out there to play hockey in -35. I agree that -14 is an ideal weather for outdoor hockey though.

I've done that once and didn't get a heart attack. I had only socks on.
It's even better (or maybe worse) when you roll in the snow.

It's about -30°C here in Middle Finland right now, **** it's cold. But in the summer it can get up to +35°C, pretty crazy difference right there.

Perhaps once a century. But that's nothing compared to where I'm from

An Aussie hockey fan!? Good for you! :handclap:
Anyway, we've actually had a lot of over 30c summers in recent years.
