Shutout record

Is there a record for the most amount of games a team (in the modern era) has played in in one season which have ended in a shutout for one team?

So far we have played in 13 games in which a team has been shutout (six times the other team, seven times we've been shutout.

Two of those games, both teams were shutout after regulation and a goal was scored in overtime.

We've played 58 games, meaning 22.4% of the time, one team will be getting shutout. We're effectively guaranteed to see a team (ours of the other team) get shutout once every two weeks and at this pace, there will be another five shutouts at least between now and the end of the season.

Under Sutter there have been six shut outs (four times we've been the shutoutee) in 25 games, or 24% of the time. At that pace there will be another six shutouts between now and the end of the season.

Essentially, we could could easily see 20 shutouts this year, or once ever four games. Has any team been involved in that many shutouts in say the last 40 years? This seems very excessive, even more so than the clutch and grab era.

For the record, we are on pace for 175 goals this season, which is one more goal than New Jersey had last year (174). 174 is the lowest by far in the post-lockout era. Carolina mustered just 172 in 2003-2004 and 171 in 2002-2003.

We are scoring exactly 2.00 goals per game under Sutter. At that pace, we'll finish the season with 172 goals, or the lowest total in eight years.

06-07 Blue Jackets were shutout 16 times. That's the most I was able to find. Let's hope we don't set the record down the stretch.

I think it feels like it's been a more frequent occurence because we've been so close in so many of the cases. That 1-0 loss to Winnipeg a month and a half ago, the Phoenix game the other night. Makes it more frustrating than perhaps losing 4-0.

14% of our games.....

....are games in which we score ZERO goals.

You can add one more shutout to the total. Eight times we've been shutout, 14 games in total have had a team shutout.
